I'm not quite sure what you are asking but here goes anyway.
Most scopes have two turrets on them. One at the top and one at the side. The top turret will allow you to shift the point of impact, up or down, of your bullet by a 1/4 inch at 100 yards (depends on the manufacturer) for each click. The side turret will allow you to shift the point of impact left or right by a 1/4 inch per click at 100 yards.
This allows you to zero your rifle in. Advanced shooters can also use the click adjustments to compensate for the drop of the bullet or the effects of wind at long distances.

Dear xl_target,
Thanks for the reply though my question was usage of yardage turrets as i have seen many scopes which have a third turret on the left hand side which i think is related to yardage....the concept is not clear in my mind.i want to know about it.i know what are the other turrets uses....Pleease throw some light on the topic if u have any informative matter.

I'm sorry that I misunderstood your question.
One common left side knob on some scopes is an illumination knob. By turning the knob you can increase or decrease the amount of illumination provided to the reticle. This allows you to illuminate the reticle and make a shot in low light conditions. There are situations, often around dawn and dusk, when the target can be seen clearly enough but the cross hairs cannot. An illuminated reticle is useful in these circumstance, among others.

Some scope have what are called "side focus knobs" which help adjust focus and parallax.
Side focus knobs are a popular trend of tactical scopes, as they should be, allowing for precise adjusting of the objective within easy reach while behind the scope. The TRS-1 has a large diameter knob that is marked from 10yds to infinity.
As you can see this scope has four knobs, the one near the eyepiece sets the reticle illumination.

If you have questions about parallax, it is explained well here:

I hope this has helped.
