i have seen some .22 cartridges which have been manufactured by CCI and the box says .22 savage. there are no indications or markings, though the size and length suggest that they could be LR. The rounds are apparently metal jacketed HP's. Can any one throw light on them.

That's a new one for me. The .22 Savage is a centerfire round; and I have never come across a CCI RF cartridge with ".22 Savage" label. The bullets in the picture are copper-plated, not jacketed. Also, there seems to be no "e" at the end of the word on the label. It seems to read "Savag", not "Savage". As "Savage" is a registered trademark for arms and ammunition, though Savage has not sold ammunition under their name for many years, to name your .22 RF "Savage" would be an infringement. Something does not smell right about this one.

Just agreeing with Two Rivers here. The .22 Savage High-Power is a centerfire cartridge.

Someone has glued the label from a "22 Savage" to the lid of a box of 22 LR's.

The labels on CCI slip-top boxes are ALWAYS vertically oriented:

Now compare:

Not only is the orientation off, but the word does not even fit on the lid.

This all points to the fact this label was not printed for this box.

At least the rounds are genuine CCI, so no worries there!

I believe .22 LR is not on the list of cartridges allowed for commercial imports by dealers, maybe some enterprising dealer took this route (changing labels) to have his shipment cleared?

Cheers!

The e in savage (in the cover) goes over and is in the side of the box and the wrapper appears to be old or printed separately. The rounds appear new and look perfect. Thanks for your help

I am pretty certain the rounds are CCI "Stinger" rounds.

Compare the pic above to this one:

In the matter Abhijeet's view is the correct one.

I am suprised you found any 22 savage. Or a weapon to shoot them in.
At one point I wanted one, but cant find one. Then again found the .222 Remington Magum and .22-250. C'est la vivre.
