Guys,

I'm starting this thread for a healthy discussion over the firearms of the Indian Defence Forces...

Brothers, put in more information as possible. Lets understand where our forces stand.

For a Start...

Heard that Minisrty of Home Affairs has ordered around 40,000 Beretta Mx4 Storm sub-machine guns. Any one knows, are they going to replace the MP5s used by NSG, or is it going to be a standrad SMG for the paramilitary forces under MHA? The SPG has already got FN F2000 and FN P90 for them. Any news, any one??

Beretta MX4 is for the BSF as far as i remember and it a military version of CX4... i don't see any wisdom in going for MX4 for a force like BSF reason being it is a 9mm sub machine gun... if you wanted to get them a good weapon system G36k or Barrett M468 would have been a better choice.....

the FN products are only issued to SPG and one can only contemplate on why that is so.....

on one hand you get the armed and paramilitary forces weapons that were designed for civilian market and then modified for the military and on the other hand you get specialized weapons systems like the P-90 for SPG ...

Beretta MX4 is a copy of Beretta CX4 but problum with this is it's not good for more then 50yards , my friend have one in 40s&w cal and it's more power then 9MM and we try that from 25 yards to 100 yards and what we found is more then 50 yards it's very hard to hit the target because it is pistol cal. now point is why the BSF going after this?
here is the link cx4

Beretta MX 4 etc..there is no standardization of weapons each force and police folks go purchase their own stuff -- agree why would some one purchase 9mm expensive pea shooter compared to 5.56 calibre weapon...they are throwing good money after bad weapons :deadhorse:

SF started getting M4's in 2006 in military sales after the indo-US nuclear deal became successful and ties greatly improved also with the fact that we have been hosting US special forces - the green berets in CIJWS every year and SEALs in exercise malabar and exercise vajra prahar.likewise our SF went to alaska as part of ex yudh abhyas where indian SF wore american camo's,tabs and badges and american's wore ours.

in 2009 SF especially the army SF got the SOPMOD kits and even RAM format, paintball M4's for CQB training using live personnel playing enemy roles in their kill houses, here is a video where you will see the paintball one's for a few seconds

one SF officer i had the opportunity to interact with few months ago via email himself told me that he favoured the M4 over the tavor though the latter is present in very high numbers with both MARCOS and para(SF)

also if ever shown on TV now SF arent showing the toys in their inventory for reasons we all know as an eg the GARUD video done by rocky and mayur showed the GARUDS using INSAS all of us interested in this stuff know the modern weaponry GARUDS have access to.

though in the end i am more than elated to see the end of times when our SF had nothing beyond AK-47 ,bren for CQB in its inventory.

hope i have been of help.

thank you

this one is a para(SF) operator with an M4

this one is a lt.col/col. test firing an M4(though on the net the rank is written as lt.gen but lt. gen doesnt have a star insignia on the pip).

just got this one this is even better

Boris

In the snapshot of Sikh officers the one away from the picture has a red stripe on his turban signifying a senior rank a Lt gen -- these pictures are on BR website and again why have multiple type of weapons - folks are trained on one or two typically and the guns/ammo is interchangeable with regular infantry weapons.. i doubt whether US special forces has such a diverse guns inventory with operational units they keep things limited to handful type of guns.

Travor is a contentious choice even Israel has not fully embraced it there are better choices out there but then what do arm chair folks like us know

Best

now if it was purchased from their own pocket it will be a different story. since the tax payer is paying for them to have fun, so who can stop them

I agree with you Spin_Drift,

Now that you have told me that it is for BSF, I'm shocked rather than surprised. Min of Home Affairs is all fucked up with red tape bullshitters, who never understand the tactical importance of picking up proper weapons based on the role of the force. They go agreed with whatever a fucked up shit head Babu with enough seniority says

I am very sure I saw a G3 with a soldier/police ( I am not familiar with Indian uniforms, sorry): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heckler_%26_Koch_G3
Am I right or is it a weapon just looking like a G3?

Probably you may have seen Pakistani soldier or policeman with G3 rifle. Pakistan Ordnance Factories does manufacture G3 variants.

I somehow doubt very much that I have seen a Pakistani soldier in Chanakiapuri.....

I am not aware of any G3 rifle or its variant being manufactured by the Indian Ordnance Factories or the same been imported for the armed forces. Probably some G3 rifles captured from Pakistani soldiers during some war and then issued to the police.
