Hi all,

I recently got an all India licence for 'revolver/pistol/rifle'. The licence issued from the Home Dept. is in the form of a book. The book shows rat gnaw marks, the pages of which are yellowish and are already falling apart (printed at least 30 years back). Today again, I met the Section Officer to submit an application to extend the 'period for acquiring the arms and producing for inspection'. The issue of the dilapidated licence book was discussed with him. He agreed that it should be on better quality paper to last ones life time. I know, through out the country it is issued in different forms and shapes: from a single sheet of paper to a booklet. May be the Home Ministry should consider standardizing the licences and issue a good quality durable booklet something simillar to a passport!

Maybe you could go to a DTP bureau and have one made exclusively for you.. dont know about the legalities though..

This is weird. Instead of issuing you another copy, the babu is asking you to acquire one from outside.

Where are you based? is this the home ministry in Delhi? Maybe a trip to DCP licensing, with a written application form?

how you it help as different state issue different type/style of licence? here in Nagaland we have red booklet type and in assam is one long rolls of paper

All the other members r correct each state in India have there own type of format.

Here I am located in Gurgaon, Haryana and I have received my license just like a passport . Or I should say it's identical in look.

I think I would be able to help you.
Please send me the scan images of your license, PM it to me.

I'll try to create a new identical copy of it.

But this is very weird !!

It should be the duty of the department.

By any chance is this legal to do so at individual level?

I am from ghaziabad UP. Here If your licence book is worn out / or may be full in some cases, the books are replaced by the arms department only..

An arms license in any form is government stationery.... which usually is the exclusive domain of the Government Press. To get one printed or sourced elsewhere without statutory authorization could be unlawful.

Also sharing the details of your firearm license on the internet is neither safe nor a good idea.

Here, in U.P. its quite usual for License Books to be available at the form/stationary shops lining the courts/Tehsil HQs. And, here also, you have to buy a license book & give it to the Arms Clerk for further processing.

All the above members r correct.
But have cross verified the Arms Rule 1962, and it is having a point in its Rule list - 52 'Form of Licenses' and there after you would be able to review all different types of format of Licenses.

It won't be an illegal act on the part of our if we reproduce the printed pro-forma which is been published by the Government of India and is under public domain.
We as a lawyer some time have to use different types of challans/ forms which we get from the Bare Acts and this job is been done by our typist at court.

Its not a illegal act, it's just a reproduction of the stationary which is not available with the Govt. Dept. And when we produce on our own it get it's status thereafter as they would stamp it and the auth. Officer shall singe the document and it would be dully entered into there register with a serial no.

There is nothing illegal about getting the licence in the form of a nicely bound book with good quality paper (may be provided by yourself), as long as the wordings are exactly the same as the regular one and it has been signed and by the appropriate authority. Primarily for some one like me it should last the next 50 yrs.

I managed mine today through the proper channel. Thanxs everyone for your kind advice!

Sorry friend home ministry itself does not have any standardization,how can you expect for this.

Your license can be mistaken for the counterfeit license by the authorities who are already used to rat eaten delapitated books and you might have lot of explaining to do every time. I'd rather you applied for another copy after acquiring a fire arm and hope for better luck. You should not get into the hassles of printing your own book IMHO.

In TamilNadu , almost all license books are bought from arms dealers.It is not illegal for anyone to reproduce any form or format of any legal document,(except passport/ university / bank account application etc which are supplied ). Unless and until it is not changed by word or spelling and it is a EXACT reproduction of the same. Moreover no Govt form or application except transport dept certificate is given in a standardized printed form. I do not agree with issue of different kind of books (except color) in each state. The Arms Act is for the whole of the INDIAN union,so should be the books or forms of licences. It is high time NAGRI raises such critical matters as well as the larger ones.I have an experience where the Arms clerk scribbled my name and address illegibly and i was made to wait and questioned at a check point . Please see that all entries are clearly and legibly written and all seals affixed.
