Fellow IFG members,
I came across this news and its spine chilling.

http://www.tribuneindia.com/2011/20110422/punjab.htm#1

MHA & Mr. PC has tried his best to make firearm licences easy for politician and their kins And such spoiled brats of politicians commit these kind of crimes  . Such people bring a bad name to all legitimate and law abiding gun owners. I am sure these people with get away and be roaming free soon coz our judiciary is helpless. It was born blind and got toothless and paralyzed with aging.

The Arms Act 1959 is being abused as a political tool just like Arms Act 1878. The political party in power issues arms licenses to its henchmen and denies or revokes licenses of people belonging to/supporting opposing political parties. The earlier we get rid of this arms act the better it is for the health of our democracy.

Or for that matter the son of SP in Lukhnow who shot dead an icecream salesman in baskin Robbins parlour.

Reason:
the man refused to serve him 'Cassata' ice cream (is it still available in kwality?) despite him saying "do you know who I am". The young stud refused to believe that such a big icecream parlour wont have cassata which even the street vendors have.

What idiots! The big laugh would be if the SP had issued the license to his son!

There is a word in Jalandhar that 3 out of the 4 acussssed had licenced revolvers  when the incident occured. No matter how heated the argument gets but this was no way to end it. Such spoiled brats feel on top of the world after getting guns and think they are above the law  . I hope justice prevails and a message is sent to such rotten lot.

Drifter, yes this incident is true, the murder was commited by son of a Dy SP of Lucknow in 1999. The revolver used by the accused was an unlicenced one. Post his arrest police came across 2 SLRs and one Sterling sub-machine gun in his possession which he had bought from gun runners in Lucknow.

Thanks for the info pran80,

It is dangerous when the felling of power overcomes common sense. The cassata icream proved too costly for the icecream man.
Wonder what happened to the SP's son did he get a death sentence?.

Drifter, the trial started only in 2005 and is presently going on at a snail's pace at Lucknow district court. The DSPs son is not the only accused in this murder he had an accomplice as well who is nephew of a mafiosi/politician of U.P. so you derive your conclusion as to the outcome of the case. BTW the politian's nephew is untraceable now.

Yes this is correct

and as a result in future it will be more difficult to get an arms license.

Yes it will be difficult for ordinary people only. The bureaucrats, politicians, their relatives, friends and their henchmen will get licenses as usual.
