Indians For Guns

dear all
I have obtained and filled the application forms to join the NRAI, for me and my mother, i have even got them endorsed by a senior officer in a very important GOI office, but i don't know any members to propose and second the forms, plus how do a go about it now since i haven't received any replies to my emails to the NRAI?
i don't have any firearms registered in my name, but my mother does, i only intend to shoot air guns.
any help/advice much appreciated.

i also need help for nrai membership , about fee and other facilities.i have rifle ,,shotgun and pistol licecencee for haryana state only.

You can shoot airguns even without joining NRAI. What is the real purpose you want to join NRAI for?

The increase of area validity is a real pain, unless you are willing to fight it out to its logical conclusion in High Court. Arms License is issued for self defense which is a fundamental right guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. Arms license issued for self defense, should be for "All India" since fundamental rights are guaranteed throughout the entire territory of India. Article 19(1)(d) of the Constitution of India guarantees to all the citizens, the fundamental right to move freely throughout the territory of India without having to provide "reasons" or "justifications". The very purpose of having an arms license is defeated if one is not allowed to take arms for protecting/exercising his Constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights, wherever he goes within the territory of India. Also Article 19(1)(e) guarantees to all the citizens, the fundamental right to reside and settle in any part of the territory of India. Moreover the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is a fundamental right guaranteed under Articles 19 and 21(http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... 15#p117785).

Let us see what is the response of other members who have got their area validity increased. Have you contacted the office of licensing authority regarding increase in area validity? What do they say?

For increase of ammunition quota, going by the experience of those who got it increased, it is practically the asla babu in the office of Licensing Authority who increases it(usually it is for "target practice").

In North India, asla babu is the name given to arms clerk in office of licensing authority. It is not that he is legally "authorized" to increase ammunition quota on license. Practically these clerks handle the paperwork.

Its a Farsi hang-over, Farsi used to be the court language of the Mughals. The khari boli in Delhi, under Sanskrit, Farsi, Arabic and Turkic influence evolved into Hindustani, of which, Urdu and Hindi are the two standard forms. Urdu has more of Farsi/Arabic/Turkic influence, Hindi has more of Sanskrit influence.
Aslaha means weapon in Farsi. Thus aslaha babu or asla babu = weapons clerk.

I don't think NRAI has a shooting range of their own. Would it not be better to join a shooting range/club instead. Personally I do not see any practical reason joining NRAI by spending around Rs. 11113/- for annual membership or Rs. 23246/- for life membership. But if you still feel strongly to join NRAI for some reason, you may have to get in touch with existing NRAI members. There seem to be some on this forum.

point taken, but can you suggest something please? I'm aware that there is an air rifle range at Siri Fort, bus isn't it open only to members of the sports complex? later i might want to graduate to firearms too, so that's why i was thinking of the NRAI, especially since its the national body for shooting. any Nrai members here on the forum care to comment? their opinion and help would be invaluable

You can very well shoot at the Siri Fort range, which is a 10m range. You will have to pay by the hour + gun hiring charges (if you take the gun from the range). You do not need any membership to enter the Shooting Range. The guys there are quite helpful and lot of us regularly go there and shoot. If lucky, you can get guidance from Jaspal Rana himself, as he is usually there in the evenings. A monthly membership (all inclusive, except guns) is about 3K.

Reg your area validity question : I presume you are in Delhi. If so, you will have to apply to the Office of Addl Commr of Police (Licensing) at the Defence Colony Police Station. It is a 2 stage process. First stage is the recommendation of Delhi Police itself, based on need and merits of your application. If they recommend, it is then sent to the Principal Secretary (Home), Delhi Govt. for clearance. Only after the Home Dept of Delhi Govt clears the file, will your licence be endorsed for ONLY 3 additional neighbouring states. This process can take anywhere between 6 months to 2 years !

NRAI membership does add little weight to the application, but is no guarantee of approval. Only competition certificates help to prove your bonafide need (sports basis) and/or property registered in your name, in different states, you apply for. For competition participation you will need the State Rifle Association membership (Delhi State Rifle Association, in case of Delhi).
