The state has ordered for it Rs. 36 crore worth arms and ammunition in the last two years. Yet, the bulk of the force is not firearm trained. And of the 43,000 cops, only 150 have bullet-proof jackets.
I guess we have another scam coming !
To guard the vulnerable coastline, the police flaunt a fleet of amphibian vehicles. Yet many of them cannot swim in high seas or use marine equipment.

what they need is RIB's and Hovercraft, not those 'autorickshaw yellow'amphibians alone
Are we looking for a re run of 'water rats' or a(another) crack commando force?

Italics/colour changes-mine!

http://www.dnaindia.com/mumbai/report_f ... ns_1221940

In a first in Asia,
Malaysian Police had them in the 90's
Force One, the special force being set up by the state to combat terror, will soon be equipped with high-end weapons like MP5 sub-machine guns. They will also be provided with the latest gadgets and get intensive training.

The revamping of the police armoury is a part of the Rs126cr modernisation process announced by the state after 26/11. Currently, the National Security Guards, Marcos and the Indian Army use these machine guns which are very handy and compact in size, light in weight and don’t have to be re-loaded.
finally, the Indians lead the world. The quest for eternal life has been found

“We will procure adequate weapons and provide intensive training to our force,” said Subhash Avate, additional director general (planning). The machine guns are expected to be bought by March, he added.

The force, a part of the state police, will get the same training that commandos do. Personnel will be handpicked from the existing wings.

The Mumbai police will also get upgraded weapons. The lower rung of the police force will be given .762 single loading rifles and will be put through rigorous training.

The hack must have just quoted the Police man ...and these are the same enlightened cops who refuse your licences.
So what are they modernising to 0.762mm single shot break open models? Dodnt they do well enough with the 7.62/0.303
An ideal pattern will be: 2 cops, one with a 9mm SMC carbine, another with a 12Ga pump-a la Mossberg 500
so we dont read 'Cops fire in air, 2 dead' kind of headlines.Enough firepower and penetration for an urban scenario.Carry a 9lb 10 oz empty SLR for a 8-10 hr shift? and do policing? New kind of policing? Might as well issue them with the pup DTR in 338 LM

I want a 0.762 mm rifle, single shot or not. I wonder what kind of velocities they get, and what the parent case might be.

I must get one of magical Mp 5's that do not need reloading as well.

Actually a .338 LM does have applications in an urban scenario, particularly around taking out bad guys behind a wall etc.

Standard establishment babu bakwaas... they don't have a clue.

Ah eljefe.... Malaysian Police? Pakistan has been using it since the late 80's.... not to mention the fact that they are manufacturing it as well.

As expected the MP5 and Glock are the new 'Ultra-Sophisticated weapons' that's currently high fashion in establishment circles... it's the state's standard panacea for every thing that has to do with security... the sophisticated high power AK47 held this position till 26-11. The damn ignorant amateur fops that we have for cops & babus just have NO CLUE.

0.762... ? Soon we'll be having the Holland&Holland scandal displacing the Bofors scandal... :) ... On the other end of the spectrum I heard dark mutterings of .9mm machine guns. Needle fletchettes?

The taxpayer pays to get boneheads like these trained up and well fed.... Civil Service.... eurgh!

...also interestingly, what would a unit like Force1 or whatever need MP5SDs for?

that is what Babur said thousands years ago.
So without enough space, Force One struggles to train its 300 hand-picked commandos.
300 is A LOT there is no need in 300. 30 is enough but well trained and equipped and they will be up to any task.
Each session costs the state Rs. 10 lakh
that is where the scam and to run it that way you need a numbers like 300 or better 3000 or 30000.
