Not exactly. This is one of the models IOF Ishapore tried to work on without much success. It is based on the same Insas platform but with a shortened and redesigned bolt and frame. The Uzi has its cocking bolt on the top and it moves to and fro along a slot cut through the top plate, making it necessary to have a huge U notch cut through the bolt handle so the user can take aim and align his front and back sights. This one on the other hands works the conventional way, bolt handle to the right - just like the Insas. The vague resemblance to Uzi is only cosmetic. Also this was in 9mm. The other sub-machine gun made in 5.56 is a different model.

@shiva 77 no not the same cal. as insas it is called MINSAS catridge. same 5.56 diameter but length is shorter. it is fully developed in india.

The new round appears to be of same concept that experimental American Colt MARS, as it has bottlenecked case 30mm long, loaded with light, pointed bullet with steel penetrator core. The bullet weight is 2.6 gram and muzzle velocity from 300mm carbine barrel is listed as 650 m/s, resulting in muzzle energy value of 550 Joules - similar to modern pistol cartridges. The cartridge, known as 5.56x30 MINSAS, offers effective range of about 200 to 300 meters, with good penetration against body armor. The early carbines for this round, known as MINSAS, were based on the INSAS rifle, lightened and scaled down for shortened round. The MSMC, however, derives from this by having more compact, pistol-type layout, which also offers better balance and better maneuverability, especially in confined spaces.
The Modern Sub Machine Carbine / MSMC submachine gun is intended for Indian Special Operation troops, but it also can make a good Personal Defense Weapon for vehicle and gun crews and other non-infantry personnel operating in combat zones. It is a gas operated weapon, utilizing rotary bolt locking and a gas piston, located above the barrel.
MSMC submachine gun is in its final stages of T&E by our forces.
lets hope we see these MSMCs replacing the old stens....

@FAROOK .it is said to be quite good actually. the drdo might have copied many designs in both MSMC and MCIWS but both are said to work very well. but we have to hope iof manufacturing dosen't spoil it :/

Iof is by no means a small company, one of the biggest around in terms of infrastructure and man power. The problem with them is unwillingness to colaborate. What they need to do and I believe many arms manufacturers made the proposal, is to tie up companies like barrette, Hk, Walter and Smith and Wesson and manufacture the weapons in India under their guidelines. Our government only wants to make a quick buck least interested in giving it's citizens the best.

first off i would rather, our Military use Tavors or micro Tavors for CQB or may be an mp7 or mp5k(if u prefer the smaller cheaper round and a comparatively affordable weapon)...

2nd The MSMC design is actually a derivative of 3 guns- insas(the front potion-sights,bayonet lug etc), mini Uzi-just the compactness and may the exterior look of the upper, and the handle and the sahpe of the magazin is very much similar to the HK MP7....

and ofcourse, A bayonet in hand rather than mounted on this gun(MSMC) is always better option which ofcourse in itself is a kind of "knife"....
coz when you have it on a gun, Your only possibility of a primary attack motion is thrusting, which can easily be countered, but if you have it in your hand you can have a world of possibilities in ways to attack your enemy-Thrust, slice, cut, etc etc you get the picture....
thats just my 2 cents...
