Considering that gasses exiting the gap can cause erosion of the revolver's top strap (consider Ruger's withdrawal of the 357 Maximum), such a result is as predictable as it is unfortunate.

I have saved the thumb webs of quite a few Rookies at the range while shooting pistols with their left thumbs riding over the right hand directly in the path of recoiling slide. But this pic....took me a while to figure out why the thumb got blown off. I have seen thumbs getting singed, but this 460 round is frightfully destructive. A good lesson indeed.

nice one mate, lets try with the other hand :( may have some problems when thumbing lifts on the highways.

Yes, could be a young person from the look of the hands. But that are the hands of the "how-not-too" demonstrator, not of the shooter, I'd bet. In any case, the shooter gained years of experience and wisdom in a split second. Terrible thing to happen to anyone. Yet you have to wonder, "how can anyone be so dumb???". Cheers.
