Himachal farmers face ammo shortage to clobber monkeys /wild
HI! The Himachal govt. has given in to the long standing demand of the farmers in Himachal and declared monkeys and wild boars as pests and allowed them to shoot the critters. However the poor folx dont have enough ammo or limits on their licences to do the job! -(Edited until clearance from admin & mods)

Why doesn't the government call in KPS Gill as security adviser?...or call in additional Paramilitary forces...maybe even the NSG?shutzen";p="25739 wrote:HI! They'd rather do that than let civilians (Ugh!) have more ammo.

Well, then either the engine is busted or there is no engine at all... A permit for crop protection DOES NOT equal to a free for all hunting permit! What you are suggesting is tantamount to encouraging people to misuse this for purposes other than crop protection... Which would be illegal, as would providing "poor villagers" with ammunition over and above their allocated yearly ammo quotas... Therefore anyone stupid enough to take your advice to "help" the villagers may just land up in some serious trouble...shutzen";p="25792 wrote: HI! May I also add here, the carcass of any animal shot under a crop protection permit HAS TO be deposited with the authorities AND CANNOT be taken as a trophy OR it's meat consumed...

Nyet ! pal the engine is firing on all cylinders In this case the panchayats are giving out permits for getting rid of these pests. The condition on the permit not consume its meat and to deposit the carcass and with the wildlife department remains- In fact the panchayats of several villages in this region are convening to demand the Govt. give it -hold ur breath- sufficient qty of FREE ammo to slambo the pestsmundaire";p="25799 wrote:Well, then either the engine is busted or there is no engine at all... But for monkeys,I don't think the rest of the wild life is flourishing to the extent that the man animal conflict is a result of the spill over arising out of a population explosion. It's largely the result of habitat destruction leaving the animals very little choice in matters of the source of their food.
It's an open secret that one of the reasons for the poaching of tigers is the desire in some quarters to get the forests deserved to facilitate agriculture and human settlements or mining or whatever passes for 'development'.
