Re: MEMBERSHIP TO RIFLE CLUB

Post by shadow » Tue Jan 22, 2008 2:23 pm

Hi Comrades,
I am from Chennai & it seems we only have 1 shooting academy here namely Madras Rifle Association. It seems they have closed membership for the year as its full & I have been asked to try only in 2009. Is there any other shooting academy / association that I can join, as I want to learn to handle firearms & their technical specifications, since I am applying for a license & want to be a responsible license holder. Thanks!

Hi shadow,

Are you referring to the Chennai Rifle Club on the premises of the Police Commissioner's Office? If so, that is the only club in Chennai. They have a shotgun range in Alamathi in the outskirts of the city. For small bore rifles and air weapons, they have indoor ranges within the Commissioner's Office. Good luck!

Shadow, The place where you had gone (Rani weekly's office) is the administrative office. The club and the indoor shooting ranges are located on the Police Commissioner's Office complex which is in Egmore. It's a 5-minute walk from the Chennai Egmore Railway Station.
Ebenezer.

No, but there is no point in going there if they had told u in the administrative office that memberships are not open anymore. But still you can talk with the range officer if you want. I think his name is Umapathy. I met him three years ago when i was there to do a newsreport on guns.

Hello friends
Joining a rifle club in chennai is the worst thing for gun shooting starters bcos they try to rob 40k to a lakh for membership depending on the category of the people.it is close to normal gun shooting starters .this has to done be right by right people.

Cheers

Hi Arvind,
You will not get proper response overphone. I suggest that you visit the administrative office on the premises of Daily Thanthi newspaper office on Poonamallee High Road opp. St. Andrew's kirk and enquire with the staff there. As far as I know, memberships aren't open till next year.
All the best,
Ebenezer
