Shooting down a would be assailant gets one in enough legal problems in this country. I wonder what fate this dumb brave Manpreet Bebe would have met had she managed to killed the eve teaser. Running with a finger on the trigger is pretty brave as well. I am sure she was directed by the media to do so. Makes very interesting footage for the viewers.

The media has it wrong as usual... the lady is holding a shotgun not a rifle

Inder I beg to differ on the merits of this particular case, the lady was out for vengeance and was not in a self-defence situation. She went home, picked up her dad's gun and went out looking for the eve teaser, in her own words "I went there to kill him"! Legally speaking she would be liable for prosecution for her actions... Whatever sympathy one may have for her (due to constant harassment by the eve teaser), she is not really a stellar example of responsible gun ownership...

:agree: This footage itself can spell trouble for her. Please let us not get carried away with such non stellar examples as rightly said so by abhijeet. Her brave talks must surely have made her father's chest swell with pride but it may act adversely for us if we applauded such acts on our forum.
Just IMHO..

Hi Abhijeet,

I didn't know that she was teased on road then she went home, picked up the gun and went to the teaser house. I was thinking that she was harassed at home and she chased the assailant to his house :?

Sometime girls in north are pushed to the wall way too much. may be that’s why the reaction. I agree that she is not really a poster girl for responsible gun ownership and I doubt even her father have a clue about same otherwise this incident would not have happened at first place but still I will give her full marks for using the tool available to teach criminals a lesson. I am sure these kinds of incidents will reduce at least in that village for some time.

At her age I don’t expect anything better especially in that kind of environment without any imparted knowledge about safety and responsibility around guns.

Please remove the post if you think it’s over the top.

Marksman: She is not bebe, she is too young to be a bebe.

She is definitely brave, but also cocky and irresponsible.

This video proves that she is immature in handling her senses, let alone a fire arm, that too not hers. Just imagine how this case would have turned if she had shot dead the harasser with her fathers gun!!!. What she should have done is take up the matter to her father immediately after the very first incident of being harassed.

It would be a totally different scenario, if she had taken up the fire arm to defend her honor.

What ever the case, her desire to kill harasser cannot be justified.

Lets for a second think that she had not done what she did and in fact just did not do anything about it. What would have been the result of that ? The eve teaser would have taken that as her weakness and that would embolden him to do it again ( and maybe much more) to her or other girls. When and where would it have ended ? Unfortunately in our country the police is too corrupt to do what its supposed to do. If they do their job and common people have some confidence in them then people might not have to take matters in their own hands.
We now know the consequences of her action and we also know the consequences if she had gone ahead with actually shooting him but we are not thinking of the consequences if she had not had the courage to face her tormentor.
I am not justifying her actions but just trying to think from her side of story.

Ideally she should have not picked up the gun, and law should have taken its course to punish the guilty, but in India law rarely takes its desired course and in most cases, releases the guilty with full honors. Net result, we have in our country is bold criminals who have no "fear" of law. Just get the percentage of eve teasing/rape cases leading to conviction in India, you will get the true picture.
People try to take law into their own hands(though not correct), when they loose faith in the judicial system, when judicial system is too cumbersome & slow. It is a known fact in India, that it takes ages to get justice from "Honorable Courts"(justice delayed is justice denied). It is a real mental torture & agony for the justice seeker, rather being, the other way round. This is the precise reason we come across cases where people go to "Panchayats", local "powerful people", politicians etc for getting instant justice.
It was not just without any reason, that a Phoolan Devi was transformed into "The Phoolan Devi". Ideally she should also have not picked up the gun, and law should have taken its course to punish the guilty.

Choo kar az hama, har heel tay darguzasht, Halaal ast burdan ba shamsheer dast.
Meaning:
"When all other means have been tried, all means failed; It is righteous to draw the sword out of its sheath."

Eve teasing is a bane in North India and is rampant with tragic consequences such as acid attacks, kidnapping etc. Its as a last resort and out of frustration that some one takes an extreme step like this young girl. Although this girl is lucky it didnt result in any accident dont support her action but realistically what are her options? There is absolutely no recourse for her ilk, all that talk of 'panchayat', police etc is bs.

Yes, i agree that police may be corrupt and too lazy, but she deliberately skipped a step of telling her parents first....and took the law in to her own hands. That is real immature...

Definitely an immature behavior of an adolescent, which should not be encouraged. But we should not be blind to the actual situation in our society in terms of effectiveness of our justice delivery system. A lot needs to be desired.
As I mentioned before, I repeat myself again, people try to take law into their own hands(though not correct), when they loose faith in the judicial system, when judicial system is too cumbersome & slow. It is a known fact in India, that it takes ages to get justice from "Honorable Courts"(justice delayed is justice denied).
