Plans on the start

All right, Fellow IFG-ans, this is the plan I put forth and since I know it is not the perfect one, I want everyone to put in the rectifications wherever wanted.
1. Authorization: We need a document demanding allowing arms possession by every citizen. This can come in the letterhead of IFG and signed by the authorities as well as the willing IFG-ans.

2. Newspaper coverage: The largest circulated daily in WB is AnandaBazaar Patrika that runs a daily poll on controversial topics. If they can be approached along with the copies of all pro-gun ownership articles, chances are there they shall move forward with it. We can also ask them to print the matter in the letterhead in the To the Editor section. But if they do not, then a back-up plan is reqd. Fellow IFG-an, please think about it.

3. Posters and pamphlets: My brother works for an event management and product promotion company. I've discussed it out with him and he told me that they can do their bit on the poster and pamphlets part. If the admin and the moderators are willing to give it a shot, I shall put them in direct touch with the owner of the company.

4. Media Coverage: Star Ananda, the ABP Group news channel is renowned for standing beside common people; at times, they even spoke against the CM and the Police. If the newspaper part goes smooth, so shall this one.

NB: I feel we can get it started under the head Civil Rights to keep later complications at bay, if any, come up.

Dear Rottlord,

I appreciate your enthusiasm and pro activeness on this, but before we actually starts Pro Gun Propaganda and shouts for RKBA in West Bengal, please keep in mind the following to judge the mental wavelength of average Bengalis. No offence to anyone

1. Gun Culture and knowledge about guns are very less among Bengalis, and most people have a misconception and impression that, guns are only for Police and antisocial and common man has nothing to do with guns.

2. Bengalis are famous for their knowledge and intellects and they love to discuss about various topics like politics, Marxism, football, cricket, movies, arts, literature to recent president elections in USA and what OBAMA should do to solve economic turmoil, but NO GUNS!!! Even if guns come to their discussion they lowered their voices and whispered each other as if they are discussing something illegal against the state and the person beside them cannot hear their discussions. Guns are considered to be some sort of social taboo in west Bengal and most Bengalis are not comfortable about discussing about guns publically.

3. Quite naturally common men have a fear from guns and weapons due to lack of knowledge and they have a common feeling of more guns more crimes. So all of a sudden if you start arranging a poll in favor of RKBA, quite obviously the majority will oppose it and the result will not be in a favor of us.

4. What I think is we have to gradually change the mindset of common people and let them know the truth and fact about, how guns can prevent crimes by showing proper example and statistics and how our bureaucrats depriving us for being armed for their own benefits, using rules implemented by British during pre independent era. The best way of doing this is publish an article on Anadabazar Patrika preferably on Sunday Supplementary as that is widely circulated among Bengali Families, also if this can be published, I swear, anti gunners ( Read Common Men) will immediately start shouting about Virginia tech or School of Columbia incident as an example of gun abuses, so the article should cover all the statistics from different sources regarding how guns are lowering the crime rate in gun friendly nations like Sweden and Switzerland, also by comparing past and present UK crime rate before and after handgun ban, before giving them a chance to raise the topic and making it a issue.

5. Tanmay Chattejee is a pro gun Journalist in an English Daily and a member in IFG in the name of TC. Though he is not a very regular member here, let see if we can contact him to get some contacts of his journalist friends who can help us to publish the articles. Since I am in USA, if you want I can try getting his number and forward it to you so that you can personally contact him and discuss about it.

Will greatly appreciate if some other fellow members can provide inputs/thoughts as well

Regards
Saptarshi

to_saptarshi, you have a very valid point there.
Maybe if IFG starts a regular column on gun awareness - articles that educate and bring about awareness in the masses, with slow and sturdy points of RKBA, it would seep in and be accepted much better.. :)

... I would not say that Rottlord has mentioned the police brutality as a form of 'fear'; and would instead consider his effort in better planning :)
Rottlord,
I am available for any poster-making and running around in Bangalore...

It's not the fear penpusher, it's what you call being cautious. Remember, we are only a handful of people who are looking forward to it and not the entire of India and I know WB more than you do. What I meant is about taking adequate steps so that no one can accuse IFG on provoking people on wrong grounds. That way, if the campaign can be started under the heading of CIVIL RIGHTS, then I think it shall be adequate caution.

Dear Everyone,

Apart from trying to get Abhijeet's article printed in TOI (I used to know someone working there), I'm also going to enquire with the rifle clubs here regarding how we can go about it. Thanks for all the support and suggestions.
