Here, the prohibited bore arms licences were granted on various grounds like threat perception, family heirloom cases and defence allottees. The requests were rejected as no adequate justification for grant of arms licences were found under the extant policy / guidelines issued by the Government in April, 2010 and based on the reports received from the Intelligence Agency (IB).
Arms Act, 1959 and Arms Rules, 1962 do not prescribe providing security arrangements for MPs in naxal affected regions. However, security as per norms is provided to VIPs by the Central Government and / or State Government concerned in deserving cases on case to case basis.
This was stated by Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju in Lok Sabha today.
