Great, Shadow thank you for taking the initiative :) Everyone if they have not done so already, can download the existing two documents, draft objections as well as Vikram's article and start work on thes translations.

So now we have
Shadow - Marathi & Gujarati
Vikram - Telegu

Anyone else who can help us with any of the other languages? Assamese/ Bengali/ Bodo/ Dogri/ Kannada/ Kashmiri/ Konkani/ Maithili/ Malayalam/ Mizo/ Nepali/ Oriya/ Santali/ Sindhi/ Tamil/ Urdu?

We don't need to cover all, just as many as we possibly can. This will also help us later on in spreading the message at the grassroots level.

Dear Abhijeet,

Arent we drafting a common 1-page objection which gets translated in regional languages? If so can you please mail the same to us so that all our letters mean the same though in different languages?

Cheers,

I have tried to translate from English to Bengali to make the job easier for anyone good at Bengali, using http://bengalinux.sourceforge.net/cgi-b ... k/index.pl

I am attaching Bengali documents. The Bengali documents need to be corrected and refined further by anyone who knows Bengali.

The files have .zip extension, but have been given .pdf extension since .zip was not been allowed to be uploaded by this website. Hence anyone downloading the attachments need to change the extension first from .pdf to .zip and then open with any decompression program like 7zip, winzip etc.
Let me know of the matter that has to be translated.
The matter is at http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8412

Gents, I am currently in the process of trying to churn out a 2 pager for publication, as a request for the same has come from a friend who may be in position to widely circulate the same. Meanwhile I've put up some bulleted points at http://abhijeetsingh.com/blog/archive/2 ... HOME_MINIS - could one of you use that as a base build upon and draft a 1 page generic letter to MPs/ MLAs?

Furthermore more than one person has suggested that in stead of just e-mailing/ posting this letter to MPs & MLAs we need to identify from amongst ourselves who all can go and personally meet one/ more such people, hand over the letter and related material as well as try and explain in 5 minutes what this is all about. To further add weight to the petition letter, each such person from amongst us should please let us know his/ her location & who all he can approach in person to hand over the petition. This information can be sent to webmaster [at] indiansforguns [dot] com or me/ one of the other moderators. We can then request ALL MEMBERS is that zone to then take one/ more blank sheets of A4 size paper and get people to Sign it along with their Names & Addresses, each person should be able to easily collect 20 to 30 signatures in this manner, some should be able to get many more. They can then post these sheets to the designated person, who will then staple all of these sheets on to the petition letter... this would add a lot more weight to the petition and ensure that at the very least they will read it and consider taking some action on this. This was suggested by Shutzen today morning and I think it makes a lot of sense.

We are completely open to any suggestions on this that anyone else may have.

Cheers!

I have sent my objections and the annexure via email on Monday evening. I have also CCd my Local MP. He is well know to me so I will also speak to him personally or on the phone when this bill is coming up for discussion in the parliament. In addition to this I also know a few other MPs from my city (Mumbai), I will also speak to them personally around the same time.

It seems that the MHA is going to take this to the parliamentary committee tomorrow (not sure of the exact timing yet). There is a very big probability that our objections may not be tabled by the Deputy Secretary in front of this committee, therefore please review the attached list of members of this committee and see if you/ anyone you know can somehow touch base with one/ more of them to make them aware of what is happening, as well as the objections to these new policy measures. PLEASE treat this with all URGENCY as it is paramount for our cause that the parliamentary committee is made aware of the hidden agenda behind this policy.

Am available on mobile 24x7 for this, so please do not hesitate to get in touch if anyone needs me for anything at all regarding this.

Will it be possible to file an RTI to know if at all any objections have been received by MHA to the draft amendments and if so, how many. In this way, the disclosure will automatically bring forth the truth.

In case they reply in the negative, then all of us who have filed their objections can simply take printouts of sent mails, with the IP details, and take them to court /anything else suitable...

My 2 cents worth...

I had suggested to abhijeet earlier, to file an RTI (to demand a copy of whatever national daily they have published the article regarding this issue) and also why so less time given for public suggessions...........and also how can they table this amendment next day immediately after the expiry of the last date....21-dec-09 -----to ------ 6th-jan-2010.......on 7th--jan--2010 it is a news that they are going to table this in the parliament......without even reading our suggessions........

This is only a committee, they'll probably discuss whther to put it up in the parliament and. Amendments. I doubt they have the power to legislate.

Vikram, after downloading the file you have to change the extension from PDF to ZIP, then only you will be able to view it. I take a glance at the document and it did not worked at all, It cannot be done automatically , rather someone has to go through the document and translate it manually keeping the meaning intact otherwise the tool will change "Arms" to "Bahoo" which means Hand in most indian language and make no sense at all. I hate my work schedule and pressure and wish I could contribute more on this....
Thanks and Regards,
Saptarshi

DO NOT underestimate the power of the parliamentary committee! Anyhow, a quick update, the meeting for tomorrow does not have the arms acts amendments on it's agenda - this has now been confirmed by 3 independent sources, so we have some breathing space at least for the moment.

However, I would still request all to try and contact as many of the listed names as possible - I am told that apparently the quorum requirements are just 2 members and the chairman, so it is entirely possible in spite of our touching base with 50% of the members, the meeting could take place in their absence and the items be passed without discussion. Hence, the need to apprise as many of these gents as possible about the issues at hand.

As to passing this without parliamentary assent, the Govt. if it gets an assent from the committee can sent this as an ordinance to the President, and if signed by her, it comes into force immediately for a period of 6 months, within which time it has to be presented to the parliament. However, we all know that once something gets done in this country getting it undone is almost impossible. Hence the sense of urgency in my requests.

Cheers!
