personally i do not think we should do that. as it would not make any difference to the outcome if one was sent or 1crow :) also unlike the government who do not trust its citizen let us not go round asking if we have sent one to this or that. Trust is what we need.

Personally I would strongly suggest the following:

1) COPY + PASTE the text of the document in the body of your e-mail. Whether you use the exact same text or edit it to your personal taste is up to you. The text has been merely provided as a basic starting point so that everyone who may not be able to/ may not have the time to/ may not have a penchant for writing out detailed documents - would have a ready reference from which he/ she may refer to to draft his/ her own response to the proposed measures. PLEASE NOTE, that NOT ALL organisations accept attachments, so as far as possible please paste the text in the BODY of the e-mail. The text has been purposely provided in several (many of them editable) formats for this purpose, to enable all of you to USE the text as you see fit. PLEASE NOTE that there is no copyright limitation on this work, IT IS THERE SIMPLY TO ENABLE/ ASSIST ALL to be able to make the best possible objections to the proposed draconian amendments. Treat it as such, this work is FROM YOU AND FOR YOU!

2) If you are willing and able to send a hard copy, please do so ONLY by SPEED POST, as almost no Govt. Dept. will accept private couriers and regular recorded post will not reach in time. ALSO, I would personally recommend that you save paper and have multiple people sign the same petition/ objections that you are sending across by post. For example, my own will have several signatures+names+addresses of family members/ neighbours/ friends who wish to protest this issue along with me. Please try to do the same if possible.

3) The enclosure of Vikram's article is recommended as an enclosure, but is not paramount. WHAT IS ESSENTIAL is that you send in your individual OBJECTIONS as you see fit. Your objections DO NOT have to be the same as what has been suggested, they can be anything, so long as YOU BELIEVE IN THEM.

4) If there was EVER a time to speak up it is NOW. PLEASE and I cannot stress this enough, PLEASE do not leave this for later, tomorrow, someone else... this is not my or your personal battle, this is the cause of ALL gun owners/ shooters/ enthusiasts. Even if you do not own a gun, but believe in the basic freedoms that every one us should enjoy, SEND IN YOUR OBJECTIONS! It does not matter if you are an NRI or a resident of India, whether you live here or have not given up your Indian passport, this is YOUR battle!

5) I know I am repeating myself, BUT PLEASE DO spread the word as FAR AND WIDE as you can, with a request to all to further propagate the message. We send forwards of inane jokes all the time, this is FAR more important and we do need to have as many people as possible, hear about this and register their objections.

6) If you know any popular Indian bloggers/ twitter users/ media people, make sure you send the message to them. We need to drum up as much attention as we possibly can. The whole reason why we are in the sorry mess we are in today is because many of our fraternity in the past were mired in the attitude of "I can get my own work done, so why should I bother for the others...?"! PLEASE DO NOT fall into that trap... unless you want to give up your guns completely. You are all smart people and I think you know what I mean by this, if not, then feel free to post here, and I will be happy to respond.

I know that some people may have personal issues with me/ others, and may very well be staying away from this cause because of that. To them I can only humbly request, that they forget about personal issues/ personalities and look at the bigger picture which affects everyone. It is not just my horse in the race here... and if any of them would like to help in any way, all of us are here to help them as well.

I'll end by simply saying, trust in yourselves and your fellow shooters and may freedom prevail over oppression!

Cheers!

i was out for sometime so didnt do it yet ... will do it by today pukka

however i still say WE NEED PUBLIC SUPPORT we need the PAPER AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA...
guys we still have time 24hrs is more than enough to convince any news channel about this or any newspaper to publish it ...
all we have to do is make them understand the gravity of the draft..

regards
lionheart

Can the members of IFG who are there on Facebook, Orkut, Myspace or any other social networking website, please promote the cause? Your own way of advertising the injustice being propagated. They can attach the MHA link, attach Vikram's document, attach IFG's response all as part of their status in these social networking sites.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Draft changes in arms act policy online by GOI

Post by ajayplahane » Sun Jan 03, 2010 9:41 pm

Dear friends,
No doubt, all of us are concerned about proposed changes in policy regarding arms; our earlier talk and threads were about it with no concrete information, since the govt had not published the proposed changes. (if I am correct ! ). Here's the bad news....
GO TO GOI WEBSITE AT MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS. PROPOSED CHANGES ARE SEEN IN THE FORM OF A PDF FILE. LAST DATE FOR SUGGESTIONS IS 06TH JAN-2010.
Proposed changes r too shocking and devastating....Everybody is urged to send in his suggestions urgently.
Those who r in Delhi, pl visit the dy. secretary Mr. Malhotra and....try to convince; give your suggestions in writing; explain him that only a small chunk of licensees violating law cannot be a reason to bring such unthoughtful changes etc...etc....
And Abhijeet, if u r from Delhi, we expect u to lead...

Yes dear nagarifle,
That thread was under discussion before 21st dec. and this draft is published on 21st dec.Obviously, we were discussing on the NEWS OF proposed changes and not on the proposed changes itself, since they were not published till then.
Noe, everybody is requested to pl download the pdf file, chew it, and send your suggestions before 06th Jan.Sending a hard copy is also important. They may just discard the inline suggestions.

dear friends,
just went thru' the doc of vikram. Excellent work. But writing an essay will not work for a baboo. we need to give concrete suggestions on each proposed change in provision. if we think it is detrimental to our community, common citizen, or the country, then we must write what "positive" change, instead of the present negative one, is being suggested by us.
This is what i think, (this is straight from the HORSE'S MIND....!)

Ajay,

Try these for a para by para/ proposed amendment by amendment rebuttal:

http://www.indiansforguns.com/draft_objections.pdf (Acrobat PDF document format)
http://www.indiansforguns.com/draft_objections.rtf (Rich Text Format, editable in most office programs)
http://www.indiansforguns.com/draft_objections.txt (plain text format, editable in any text editor)
http://www.indiansforguns.com/draft_objections.odt (Open Office document format, editable)

Read and pass the word around for everyone to register their objections with the MHA ASAP!

Cheers!
