Dear Sir

As a resposible Indian citizen i express my objections on the proposed amendmants in the Indian Arms Act Ref no : No.11026/16/2009-Arms

I was born in a free country with the world's biggest democracy tag around my neck, but now i feel as my very basic rights

* my right to protect myself
* my right to protect my family
* my right to protect my property

are all going to be taken for a ride, as the suggested curbs in the Indian Arms Act restricts an average tax paying Indian citizen like me from aquiring a firearm for the sole purpose of defending my life and the ones i love and care, but where are the curbs in place for the goons and terrorists who as it seems from our past and recent experiences have a free will to strike in the heart of india and take their targets like wolves target lambs, the 26/11 Mumbai carnage has yet fresh marks on my soul as i watched the carnage live on the television with horror, franticaly calling my dear ones situated in Mumbai for their where abouts,

Just 10 Ak-47 weilding terrorists are enough for the faliure of whole system, & India as nation more than 300 hundreds lives are cut down and ran over, and the Govt wants me to believe that i am safe dont require tools for my self defence.I dont want to touch the topic of corruption that has reached to the roots of whole system because if i do then it will take a life time for me to describe the situation here that we as citizens face in our daily lifes.

The gun controll rules were laid down by the colonial roots of British Empire, only for the sole purpose of depriving an Indian his right to fight for his life, his freedom and the freedom of his motherland, if the Govt does the same then what is the point of calling overslves free, then its just the change of ruler for us. There is a common notion that fire arms are evil and ones who posseses firearms are evil doers, but dear sir Guns dont kill people, people kill people, those who wants to engage in antisocial activities dont need to go through the near impossible task of getting a licensed firearms from Govt of India, they will get indigenous make illegal firearms for a fraction of a licensed firearm.

Things are already bad enough for the fire arm license holders , i request the authorities to not to make them even more worse for them as it is now.

What is needed is to equip a good citizen with necessary tools for the protection of his and family / society, to better equip us with the tools with wich we can fight back when need arises.

What is needed is the Indian Ordianace Factories to improve their products for civilian use, and charge what is just for the quality of firearms offered, and yet allow import of good quality firearms for permitted bores, as it will make a competitive market which will eventually benefit the people of india with better quality firearm products and make good revenue options for the Govt.
When we equip the society with tools to their protection, the policing will be better, the streets will be safer and the whole nation will be much stronger.

What is needed is to adopt systems which are effective enough to not allow the fire arms to go in to the wrong hands, strong background cheks, track records and better functionality of Govt bodies.

I hope i might be able to pass the massage of the masses to the listning and concerned authorities who will make sure the interests of the people of india are not hurt by any upcoming new rulings.

Kindly go through the attached documents that support our cause."

What is needed is to adopt systems which are effective enough to not allow the fire arms to go in to the wrong hands, strong background cheks, track records and better functionality of Govt bodies.
Present Arms Act has given more than necessary powers to "Licensing Authourity" to do the above and this is were the problem lies. The present law is so "strong"" about the above, that "Licensing Authourities" can keep the file pending almost for an eternity in order to check that "wrong hands" do not get firearm license(fact remains that "wrong hands" do not come to get a firearm license), background check and track record are similarly checked by police "inquiry" which can sometimes take ages. Actual matter of fact is that no procedure or law anywhere in the world can stop criminals from getting their weapons of choice. Please read http://www.gunfacts.info/index.html you will come to know all these bureaucratic/legal hurdles have never come in the way of criminals to acquire arms. On the contrary such measures cause hurdles for legitimate applicants. Licensing procedure should be very clear and objective, with very clearly defined points as to who can get a firearm license, what information needs to be submitted and what is to be "verified"(if it is something that is already available under RTI, applicant should be allowed to submit the same to help lessen the burden of the "Licensing Authourity" & Police, if it is something that is not under RTI, then what is that "information/evidence" the police will try to "unearth" to create a valid case and how long should that take) and who cannot get a firearm license, so that it leaves no room for individual perceptions to creep in, while issuing or denying a firearm license.
