When Amit, Praveen and I met to shoot at a store in Joliet, I did have a look at some of the stuff on sale there. They had several SKS rifles, all Romanian in 7.62x39 and priced at $ 329.00 brand new. Illinois is a state with hugely restrictive gun ownership laws in the US. Across the border in Wisconsin where I visited yesterday, I checked with friends and learned that the price for Romanian SKS rifles had gone up there from $ 99 when we lived there a year and a half ago to $ 119.
Just goes to show that restrictions on gun ownership do push prices up wherever they exist. At a distance of barely 200 miles from Joliet to Racine, prices for the same type of gun are almost 3 times as much. No wonder India has such a mess as far as ownership laws and prices go!
