Obama's Speech - RKBA

Hi All
Today, along with millions of Indians, I have watched President Obama's speech to the Jt. Houses of the Parliament. His address which touched on several subjects- Security (Pakistan), Mahatama Gandhi, The progress of Indian Democracy, the future co-operation in field of agriculture research, Nuclear co-operation,UNSC seat, by far the most important subject was the development and the strengthening of Civil Societies in India.

The development of Civil Societies is strengthening the pillars of Democracy. It is through these societies that the aspirations of ordinary citizens is championed, Mr. Obama referred particulary to the RTI and its development.

The most important statement to me, was - that as India assumes its place amongst the leaders of the world, with leaderships comes responsibility, and that responsibility is towards aiding other non democratic countries to achieve freedom through the institution of Democracy. " The price of Freedom, is to fight for Freedom for others". he continued saying that " to be frank, India has often shyed away from this...' Mr. Obama, then directly addresses all Indians, saying that it is THIS generation, who has to fight for change, so that the generations to follow may enjoy the full fruits of democracy.

And this finally brings me to the point I wish to make = There are a few of us who are fighting for RKBA, it is not WHO these fellows are but more importantly FOR WHOM are they fighting for.

These unsung heroes are fighting for the freedom and the right to keep and bear arms for ALL of US.

For the collective good. Mind you friends, if today our common lament is that prices of weapons is almost beyond us and obtaining an arms license is almost impossible, then it is up to us, this generation to make the necessary change... All we have to do is fill in a few more forms.


Just as Mahatama Gandhi inspired Mr. Obama, I hope that many of us are inspired by Mr. Obama and hope to fill in a few more forms... at least I was.

Hi Hemant,Indians dont really give a damm of whatever Mr O said in the house,all they are intrested is that Pakistan be decalared a Rouge/failed state,Indians have an uncanny habit of running to US with proof of Paks involvement in the terrorist violence going on in India,my question is why running to US is required,Why cant India & Pakistan sit and sort out the diffrences,is US a global policeman that everytime a crime happens you go running to the Thana {read US],and Mr O,B,or C has to tell the bad guys to back off,what happened in Kargil,when our boys had the bad guys on the run Mr C, the Right Honrable Thanadar { whom the Pakistani PM went running to}, called our PM saying thats enough you guys call it off,and our PM did the needful.we lost about a 1000,brillant officers/men trying to throw out the baddies from Kargil and what happened ?. ADRASH HOUSING SOCIETY at Colaba happened.Hement, our people and specially the rulling one dont know the price of freedom they have forgotton it,name one VVIPS son who was lost at Kargill for the fortunate sons of VVIPs are posted in MS Branch of AHQ or the various command postings with the Army Commanders.I met an Israeli Major in Manali,they were on a holiday there and she said i quote " Freedom is good,its worth fighting for and dying for".
Mr O has come to India on the advice of the US business houses who want the money of the rich population of India, the 2% of the total population 120 crore @ 2% comes to 2.4 crore,do the maths,that more rich people then in all of US, Europe,etc,remember Buggati/Maybacks,etc etc .As far as RTKBA lets wish NAGRI all the best and hope they can have more people from the political setup with it .And the best is that the US collects tax from these business and give that to Pakistan to bug*3r our happiness an true case of "JISKI JUTTI, USIKA KA SIR",lossely translate "beat the guy with his own shoes"

Obama or The Teleprompter of the US is a leftist socialist even though he the head of the US. I dont consider him to be pro-gun even in the loosest sense of the term.

The majority of Americans consider Mr. Obama an enemy of liberty, as that term is understood in the USA. The results of the recent election speak louder than my statement. He is also an avowed and lifelong opponent of the RKBA.

I agree, Mr. Obama is pretty good at speaking straight words -- I can see why you appreciated them.

As a digression, I will also say that I was very proud to see the President and the First Lady dancing during Diwali, just as I was proud to see the former President dancing in Africa several years ago. I note that President Obama has extended Diwali greetings both last year and this year.

Regarding political name calling, I feel that these terms have been bashed about so much and used in so many ways that they have lost all definition and meaning. But as far as the majority of Americans considering President Obama to be an enemy of liberty, that statement to be completely untrue.

I do confess that, rather than rely on ill-defined ideological epithets, I take the view that actions speak louder than words. With this in mind, let me point out that:

1. President George H W Bush (the first President Bush) signed an executive order banning the import of 43 kinds of semi-auto rifles. The Congress did not pass this law: It was something ordered by the President without Congressional approval, vote, or discussion.

This laid the groundwork for:

2. President Clinton signed the Brady Act in 1993, which required background checks on purchasers of firearms from licensed dealers.

and

3. President Clinton signed the so called "Assault Weapons Ban" of 1994, which banned the sale of semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and handguns made after 1994 which had various "evil features" that were assumed to promote criminal behavior when they were included on these semi-auto weapons. This ban lasted for 10 years, until 1994.

Then,

4. In 2004, the so called "Assault Weapons Ban" was set to expire, and then-Presidend George W Bush (the son) indicated that he would like to see Congress send him a Bill that renewed the Assault Weapons ban, which if presented to him, he would sign. At that point, he was locked in a fairly close presidential reelection effort with John Kerry, and the NRA withheld its endorsement of Bush over this issue. The Republican-controlled House of Representatives, also facing reelection, refused to carry the President's water and indicated that they would introduce a renewal bill if the President first requested it.

Finally, in 2008, 4 Republican members of the then-Democratic controlled House of Representatives, Mike Castle, Mike Ferguson, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and Chris Shays, sponsored a renewal of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, but the bill never made it out of Committee for a full vote before the end of that Congress.

Now, on the other hand, while President Obama has spoken for stronger curbs on gun ownership in the past, I am noting that both Sec of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder have both brought up the need for renewing an "Assault Weapons Ban," only to be told (in so many words) to shut up and sit down about this matter by the President.

In citing these examples, I am taking clear note of those who pose as friends to guns and some who, during his campaign, promised that he would not take away the RKBA enjoyed by US citizens and has kept his promise.

I also note that gun ownership and RKBA was not a significant factor in voting during the 2008 election, nor was it significant in this recent midterm election.
