Air Snipper is here

Dear IFGians,

I am Prasad aka airsnipper from down south - Mangalore. I was a guest viewer for a crazy longtime. Firearms were not my favourites, recreational ones (harmless type) have a place in my heart though. My first love was a muzzle loaded vintage SB Rifle which my late grandfather used. He used to meticulously make the charge-mix (gunpowder,coir,charcoal powder,coir,pellets -single or multiple) -- use the long rod to make the mix. Fix a cap against the hammer (not the flint type) and aim and pull the trigger.

It used to give a booming sound, to which i used to close my ears every time he fired. He had also innovated how to hold a torch (4-6 cell) to shoot in the night (jackals & foxs - vermin that used to run havoc to crops/cattle in the farm)

Back in the days`when hunting was legal, He used to hunt down - wild boars, porcupines, eagles and hawks. His best kill was a leopard (which used to harrass the cattle in the village). His last kill was a wild boar. He turned away from the SB after that, when the Calling came.

I lay my hands on my grandfather's rifle when i was 12 years old. I fired a loaded one, only to bring down some papayas :D
(all mashed up with some pellets in it) I got ridiculed, i was a pretty poor shot for the first one.

:stupid:

I bettered it (aimwise) as days progressed.
I have also observed him in the art of stalking or snipping, how he used to explain the tell tale signs left by the animal.
I used to be all ears to him.

Had a few stints with my friends' air pistols, Target practicing in the backyards.
So for me, it is strictly recreational with no blood.

What's my next steps:

1) KSRA membership (don't have a clue about it)
2) Buy Air Pistols - (good professional make, suggestions any)
3) Participate in Events (once i get ample professional exposure)
4) Better myself everytime (buy papayas from groceries without pellets in them)

PS: I enjoy the way gunrunner, pramodsid, arshad, etc have honed the newbies into this recreational profession.
Need some tips and guidance regarding what to go for in Bangalore.

Happy Gunning ..
Prasad aka airsnipper

Welcome to IFG Prasad, thanks for sharing your experience with guns.

For KSRA membership do get in touch with members from Karnataka and Bangalore.You can also check the relevant threads pertaining to KSRA membership.

For purchasing an air pistol, pre-owned ones are available on the forum on and off. One can also import from abroad but you'd need a State Rifle Association or a similar body's membership(a valid ID Card showcasing your membership)to import one.

@OUP

Thank you for all the information. It is good to know these to get one's way around.

@shooter

The leopard skin went to a ex-King near Karkala (was a Jain!). This was way back in 1977-1978.

@Prabhath

Thanks! I would certainly need some help, will PM you soon.

Thank you cottage cheese ... You have a good sense of humour. I cannot better you, of course.
You'd rather require a butter knife have i had to use a pair of scissors :D
No offence meant, just in some lighter veins of life.

Btw, why did you name your alias/handle as "cottage cheese", i am curious?

AirSnip'p'er is for a peaceful learning, photography, airpistols etc.

Snip'p'er aspect is just a measurement of excellence for me and not in literal terms the military jargon.
It can be applied in peaceful and more beautiful work as well - I use the snipe technique with my camera
when i venture out to 'shoot' some birds, deer, wildlife in general. Birds most times.

Thank you loads Mr. m24! Papayas will come from groceries only. Unless, i start using papayas for target practise.
Back then, I was aiming at a raven on a coconut tree (behind) and had put some 12-13 pellets in the charge (coir shreds-pellets-coir shreds-charcoal powder-gunpowder), i misjudged as there was this papaya tree (front) on the left. Had it been a Single lead ball, i would have hit the raven. A Lesson or two learnt on using the front/rear sight properly! I was just over 12 year then.

Welcome Prasad to IFG,

Loved your hunting stories about your granddad and the muzzle loader, must have been very exciting times.

Wow! Love the humor, not forgetting to mention - accepted so graciously by everyone concerned. Happy sniping!

Thanks, now i get 'cc' with Tava and ladle! I presume you are far better off with AR/APs.
Pondering on, all those quirky ways that we use to come up with IFG handles.

Best regards to you 'cc'. Have fun plinking around, safely.
