ArcherSix... I do have a question about gunsmithing. What would be the right procedure to convert a Mauser 98 to 6PPC?

MoA....to convert a 98 Mauser to one of the PPC cartridges one first has to install an appropriate barrel, in your case a 6mm one which has bee chambered for the 6mm PPC cartridge. That is a task best left to a good gunsmith, or a machinist. Or if you want to take on th etask yourself, I can go into greater detail.

Now, the original Mauser cartridges that your rifle was originally designed to handle have a head diameter of a nominal 0.473" (you'll need to convert to metric yourself). The PPC cartridges have a case head diameter of 0.441". This difference MAY cause feeding problems, most likely with extraction of fired cases. To remedy this, material can be added to the extractor by welding, and then dressing it down to the proper dmensions to feed the smaller case.

Good to have you here. I am a new member to IFG as well. I have a .22 Remington Speedmaster Model 552 which I have inherited from my grandfather (about 18 years ago). It's a beautiful weapon which can take 22 cartridges in its tubular magazine. The problem is that whenever I load multiple shots into the magazine the rifle gets jammed. The first shot goes off fine and the empty pops out but the next shot gets stuck and I can't fire it. I am presently using it as a single shot rifle at the shooting range.How the problem developed is another story. I once deposited my rifle at the nearby police station. In India you are supposed to deposit all arms before the Elections. It has never worked well after than. God knows what happened there. Now I make sure that I deposit my weapons with a arms dealer ....rather than with the cops. What could be the possible problem. The local gun smiths I have consulted have never seen the weapon before.

This makes me raise a question within the forum. Is it OK for the Law abiding citizen to surrender all his "licensed weapons" before every elections . When we know that the the gundas on the streets are still roaming around with their "unlicensed" Kattas?

But then the law was always for the Law abiding citizen, when was it ever for the street thug.

You ask, Is it ok? My opinion, No, it's not.

Can we do anything about it? Repeal the law, which may take decades and that also with no result.

So, do we have a way out? No.

m24 . Thats a fantastic answer. 3% Indians pay "income tax" and once you are on "their" list then they look for ways to get you by the neck. Lucky is the "Paan wala" who may earn more than you but is not on the Tax man's list.
