hi everybody

Post by abhishekgopal » Wed Apr 01, 2009 2:00 pm

Hello to everyone in here,

I stumblled upon this website just by chance while trying to google something about purchasing an airgun. I am a complete Novice to this sport, but guns have always fascinated me as long as i can remember. As a child i remember shooting my Grandfathers german made air rifle and really enjoying it. Lately i have been thinking to pick this sport up seriously. I would like all you fellow memebers/ Seniors to advice me how do i go about it. What air gun/ air rifles are good for starters , where do i procure them from etc etc. I am currently based in New delhi and live in Hauz Khas which is a stones throw away from Asiad games complex which i belive has a shooting range.

Hope to hear from someone on this

Regards
Abhishek

Welcome aboard Abhishek, hope you enjoy your stay here :)

You are correct, there is indeed an (airguns only) shooting range at the Shri Fort Sports Complex. For which airgun to buy you may want to check out the sticky thread (with the same title) under the airguns forum here. Needless to say you first need to figure out your intended use (target shooting/ casual plinking/ pest control) and budget and work forward from there.

With the government relaxing airgun imports (more details under the airgun forum here), you have a wide variety to choose from - the only restrictions being choice of calibre (only .177 cal is allowed for direct import via post) and budget.

Cheers!

Hey Abhijeet,

Thanks for your prompt and informative reply. I have checked out the Airgun section and i must admit it is very informative for a beginer like me. Since i work fulltime on weekdays and am studying fulltime on weekends i would like to keep my intended in the short run to casual plinking. I insinuate IHP Air rifles are best for beginers. Can i please ask you to suggest me a good dealer to buy the same in south Delhi. I have checked up the dealer info but most of them are located far from where i stay. Also if you could suggest me a good rifle from IHP or someother brand which fits under my budget , My budget at the moment is 5000 Rupees.

Thanks in Advance
Cheers
Abhishek

The authorised distributor for IHP in Delhi is M/s Art Crafts Sales in Jhandewalan, but many others carry the IHP range of air-guns (if not the entire range then at least part of the range) - you'll have to contact individual dealers/ toy stores to figure out who has what in stock. You may want to start off by contacting Garg Armoury (Kashmere Gate), they have some of the best prices and are smooth to deal with. Besides airguns you will also be able to pick up decent Indian made pellets from them... I am speaking from personal experience.

For casual plinking I'd suggest the IHP National Model 25 (in .177 cal), it should retail for around (or under) INR 3,200/-. Model 35 has a bit more power and sells for a few hundred more.

Cheers!

Welcome Abhishek.

Couldn't agree more with the boss man on the suitability of the IHP Model 25 in .177 for casual plinking. While I don't advocate indoor shooting in any form, the Model 25 is excellent for backyard/roof-top/garage shooting with all the precautions. Children and the lady of the house may also be encouraged to shoot with it because of its smaller size and lighter weight. Had one myself till I lost it in floods. Will get myself one again someday.

Enjoy and all the best.

Hi all,

I have finally decided to buy IHP 35 This Friday. Can someone please shed some more light on .22 cal and .177 cal. I have googled it fairbit but nothing like hearing it from the horses mouth. Should i go in for a a.22 or.177 ? A lot of discussions i have read about various other gun manufacturers in India like Tommy, Modern , Blanca etc. Do gun dealers in delhi stock these as well and would it be a good idea to check them out too. I am planning to purchase my Rifle this Friday so hope you all can suggest me before that.
