Indians For Guns

Hello everyone,
I just found this site and man am i happy,I have loved guns and hunting for as long as i can remember.
I currently live in Ohio in U.S.A.I have a few guns in my collection.I enjoy skeet.I have been more interested in archery lately and making bows and arrows,particularly asiatic recurves and using them for my hunting,Taking game with the equipment i make myself has a satisfaction level i did not have earlier.I have been particularly interested in Mughal crabbows and am trying to get materials to make working replicas of old Indian bows.If any of you have pictures of old bows and arrows please share them with me.

Hi,currently just have a few,no collection by any means,A .12 bore pump (marlin) a .22 savage bolt action,a .22 revolver by H&R 9 shot,1 over and under by ruger,I did not get a buck this year during deer season,but managed to get a doe(meat).

Welcome aboard. Check out the medieval Indian tradition of making steel bows. It's very poorly documented, so let me know if you run into any info

Hi Ashok,I have read up on some information regarding the steel bows of India,They were said to have been invented by the mughals and were readily adopted all over India as compard to bows made with natural materials(wood,horn and sinew)were easier to produce and were not effected by the climate of the different regions of India.You could literally take the bow right from storage string it up and start shooting it,compared to the natural composites which had to be heated,strung,balanced almost everytime they were used,Unfortunately noone knows how to manufacture the steel bows anymore,maybee there are some old texts that will be found which will explain their manufacture.

Unfortunately most Indian arms were confiscated and destroyed when the British era Arms Act came into force. The only areas that managed to elude this were the erstwhile princely states where the Arms Act did not apply. As a result these are the places where (today) you are most likely to come across antique Indian arms & armour...
