I suppose I should introduce myself as a new member of your forum. My name is Jim & I live in Canada, a fair piece from your country (& I might add, just a tad colder: -40 C with the windchill at present, -29 C without). Anyway, I have browsed your forums (snooped, as it were???) & thought I would join in the discussions. First, let me say I am truly sorry you are no longer able to hunt in your fair country (I believe this to be the case based on your forum postings, but am glad if this is not the case). We are blessed here, at leasdt for the present, to be able to hunt a variety of game, such as rabbits, squirrel, coyote, wolf, badger, wolverine, grouse, pheasant, ducks, geese, antelope, deer, moose, bear & caribou. We are also able to reload with no restrictions and purchase pretty well anything we want, insofar as rifles are concerned, except machine-guns, unless you have a permit. I have shot & hunted as far back as I can remember with my father (I am now 52) & have passed the tradition along to my son & my 2 sons-in-law & now to my 2 grand-sons. I am taking my son to Africa on a plains game safari as soon as he graduates from Engineering, hopefully this year (his graduation present).
In reading the posts on your site, I am dis-heartened to learn that you are only able to keep a small number of firearms & are not able to reload. I am not sure which of my firearms I would part with if it came to that here. Currently, my small collection consists of a Ruger 77/22 in .220 Long Rifle, an H & R SB2 in .220 Long Rifle, with additional barrels in .45-70, .50 muzzle-loader, 12 gauge rifled, 12 gauge steel shot barrel, a Remington Model 700 Custom switch barrel rifle with .223 Remington, 6mm Remington BR (LV), 6mm BR (HV), 308 Winchester (HV) stainless steel benchrest barrels, 243 Winchester (sporter barrel), with multiple scopes, triggers & stocks, a Holland & Holland .300 Rimless Nitro Express 2 1/2" (aka .30-06), (also with 6.5mm Rimless Brenneke, 7 x 57 Mauser, 338-06, 350 Rimless Nitro Express 2 1/2" [aka 35 Whelan] and a spare .30-06 barrels), an FN Hi-Power also in .30-06, a Ruger #1A in .30-06, a Henri Dumoulin in .30-06, a Baikal Remington MP-221 in .30-06, a Marlin Model 1894 in .357 Magnum / .38 Special, an Army & Navy .375 Holland & Holland Belted Rimless Magnum Nitro Express, a CZ 550 Safari Express in .416 Rigby, a Mauser .458 Winchester Belted Rimless Magnum 2 1/2", a Ruger #1S in .45-70, a custom Ruger #1H in .500 Nitro Express, a Winchester Model 94 Eastern Woods Carbine in .30 W.C.F., a Winchester Model 1894-1994 Centennial rifle, a custom Winchester Model 1894 carbine in .444 Marlin, an SKS-D rifle in 7.62 x 39, an Army & Navy Lee Speed, a BSA Lee Speed, a Cogswell & Harrison SMLE, a Churchill SMLE, a Harrison & Harrison SMLE, a BSA Lee Speed, all British finished sporters in .303, a #4 Mk 1 original, a Lang & Hussey Imperial SLE, a J. Blanch & Son SLE, a James Kirk BLE, a BSA BLE, & a Browning Grade VI, all in 12 bore. I have sold all of my hand-guns and my military collection to pursue my English collection. I am looking to purchase British-finished sporting rifles, mostly based on Lee actioned rifles, but my interests also lie in Mauser, Martini & Farquharson actioned rifles, as well as double rifles [
], as well as canvas, leather, or oak & leather British full-length cases for those rifles.
I used to work with 2 Indian fellows who used to regale me with tales of the beautiful rifles & the hunting parties before they left India, went to Uganda, & then came to Canada. Between them & the Jim Corbett books I read as a child, that got me interested in India & the hunting there, but I guess I was born too late for the hunting!
