Greetings Ladies & Gentlemen,
My name is Anand, and I have been reading the stuff on this forum for quite awhile now. Infact I was a member of the Old forum Indians4guns. I had been inactive on the internet due to business compulsions and so the delay in registering with this new Forum.
A few words about myself. I live in Hyderabad A.P. I returned from the U.S on a TR in 2003.

I have had an Arms license in India since February 1996.I own 3 firearms in India ,.32 Webley & Scott Revolver A series, .315 IOF Rifle one piece stock, and a .30 FEG Hi Power Pistol.I had imported the .30 pistol on TR in 2003. My father owns a .25 FN pistol, and a H&R 12 gauge SBBL shotgun.


I have owned 8 firearms in the USA, while I lived there and have shot a good many different ones of my friend's. I am primarily experienced in handguns with an interest in Rifles and lesser interest in Shotguns. I have reloaded ammunition in the USA. I have been a member of the National Rifle Association of America since 2000(need to renew)

I have held Concealed Carry Licenses from the states of Florida(expired 2005) and Utah(expired 2006) while I lived in the USA. I am also a licensed HAM Radio operator with a USA callsign KC8PAT. I am in the process of applying for NRA of India membership.

Hello guys,
The process was time consuming. I was already familiar with all the laws and rules by 2000 itself but it was a long process at both sides. The main thing was that at that time we were just coming out of an arms embargo and there was a terror watch on India & Pakistan.
The firearm had to be exported only through a Defence department approved exporter, to whom I had to submit all the details of my ownership of firearm in the US and an import/NO certficate from India. I submited the paperwork in January of 2003 as I was told it was at most a 6 week process. It was only in october that the pistol was sent through the US Postal service (apparently the only legal way) while I had reached in April 2003 itself.
Then I had to convince Customs in Mumbai Airport Sorting Office that it was a legitimate import and it was on TR. In fact this was a 2 day affair and was the easiest to do. While it took that much time, the actual meetings at 2 levels namely at Dy.Comm it took 1 hr & Jt.Comm 25 mins.
In fact it took me more than 30 days to convince my DCP to extend the time frame to submit my pistol for inspection.(It had been extended once before so a reluctance to do a second time).
I have to say that having already had an Indian Arms License since 1996 with 2 firearms already and having 2 concealed carry licenses in the USA since February 2000 as well as NRA membership helped in convincing the authorities.
Also I kept records of all purchase receipts, hunting licenses etc. I was visiting India more frequently at that time but was careful in limiting my stay in India to less than 6 months total during the previous 2 years.
The Jt. Comm actually joked with me say "you are not giving us an oppurtunity to catch you anywherë".

Getting a bit off-topic, I would say that it is this ignorance/bending of law and rules by the people that gives rise to corruption in people. If everyone did things like Anand, things would certainly shine for the better.

Welcome to IFG Anand, and it's sure good to know of your interests. It will be great if you could mention and/or display pics of the guns you owned in US. I am sure you have good information to share

This case in Delhi High Court is worth reading for some inputs on TR process, relevant laws, and number of arms (one only) that were eventually allowed for import under TR.

Hmm... thats a nice find with lot of legal lingo...I do understand what its saying with all those legal previsions but it will be great help if someone can interpret it in simple words and post it as such
