Born, brought up and educated in Lonavala, the romantic hill station in Maharashtra, presently setteled in Secunderabad. Working for the Indian Railways. Am a gun crazy guy and a singer I sing the songs of the great singer Late Mukeshji, and am a fan of Raj Kapur hence the nickname 'SRI 420"

This site has rekindled the passion which was laying dormant in me. I enjoyed air gun shooting a lot when at Lonavala. Only my rifle was left from my old collection. Recently acquired a Chinese made 1:1 scale gun (which weighs and feels like the real one), which fires plastic pellets. It came in a padded plastic case. The guy from the shop told me that it can be filled with gas can used for filling lighters, which sounds pretty dangerous to me!!!!
Want suggestions from the seniors and Gurus about propellent which can be filled into the tank built in the magzine through a nozzle. Pictures are in album.
Thanks to all.

Welcome aboard Srinivas! To answer your question:

The ONLY 3 gases that I know of that are used/ safe to use in airguns/ airsoft/ paintball guns are:

CO2 - most common
High Pressure Air - Becoming increasing popular due to the advantages it offers over CO2
Nitrogen - not as common as the above two

Each can and should ONLY be used in a gun designed specifically to use that particular gas. Substituting one for the other in a gun not designed for it is almost certainly going to result in a disaster!!

Lighter gas is liquefied butane and is highly inflammable - you are right the shopkeeper's suggestion is criminally dangerous and will almost certainly result in the gun exploding and causing serious harm to anyone in the vicinity!

Another common misconception is that Oxygen can be substituted for air - DON'T EVER TRY THIS!! Filling your airgun with pure Oxygen is almost certainly going to put you in intensive care/ cause death besides of course completely destroying your airgun!

Shoot safe...

Cheers!

For all those wondering what happens when someone is stupid enough to fill Oxygen in a PCP airgun, here are a couple of pix:

Hello Sri 420! Have been all over Lonavala and Khandala during my school days in Pune. Have even climbed the Dukes nose at Khandala and enjoyed the beautiful view from there. Welcome to the forum. About the 'gun' that you picked up..

Are you sure its not a lighter?? I have come across a few pewter cast gas lighters that (almost) look and feel like the real thing.
