Hello and a few question

Hello Folks,
I joined the forum today after reading various posts as a guest for the past few days. I stay in Bangalore and had a National 25 air rifle while I was in school. It has been several years since I gave that away (the barrel had become bent, the piston was coming loose from the stock and the accuracy and power had dropped). Now, I plan to purchase another national air rifle.
I had a few questions before I make a purchase. I looked into the various posts but could not find the answer to these:
1. Should I go for a .22 or a .177? I tried to find out the advantages and disadvantages of each on this forum and elsewhere but could not find a comparison. My understanding is that the .177 is more accurate over a larger distance but the .22 has more energy transferred. What does this translate to in practical terms given that one can always compensate a little more for the drop in the .22 trajectory?
2. What should I look out for while picking up a new piece? How do I find any defects? What should I do to see if the rifle shoots accurately or not or has any defects?
3. What kind of sights should I go for (is there is a possibility of such a choice?)? The gun that I had as a kid had a rear sight that had a little spring loaded plate of four notches that could be turned around to get a v notch, a u notch and a couple of others as well. Are these kinds of sights available in the current models? I had a look at some air rifles at hatrick sports and olympic sports but they did not have these changeable sights.
4. What would be the price for the IHP 35 model?
Looking forward to your responses.
Thanx a ton in advance
