Back after a long time

Hello guys,

Im a long time lurker on these forums and have been reading up about air rifle and competitive shooting. I must say im quite intrigued and attracted to guns , right from a young age . I still remember my uncle taking out tin can 'targets' with his old rifle, often, offering more advice than the gun.

As years went by, my interests moved on to more sophisticated things such as electronics, photography, travellling, but my heart always yearned for the old rifle. I never would have given it a tought, until recently, when I played a round of paintball along with some friends. I wanted to get a new rifle and, as spoilt as we are with the internet, started off by asking Google and Voila!

Here I am..

From my 'research', I gather that a .177 rifle would be more suitable for accurate shooting, but with the trouble of range, compared to the .22 cal airrifle. I am looking for more casual target shooting than to join my local club (which by many on this forum, has been called as nothing short of a ripoff). By this, I understand I might never be able to export a airgun, but I dont really mind that , atleast for now.

I understand IHP seems to have some wavering QC issues as with most Indian manufacturers, but is one of the most reknowned names in the business. I also read elsewhere on these forums about other brands such as Tommy, AIMCO, SDB and Cannon, which seem to garner equally good reviews. I tried getting in touch with a few local armouries and they seem to quote exhorbitant rates compared to AIMCO(Using it as a yardstick for a IHP). I dont want to deal with the local businesses, but they seem to hold a plethora of knowledge into these guns, compared to the AIMCO site and I really want to make a educated decision before buying a rifle. I'm hoping IFG'ians would help me on this.

I am interested in getting a Cannon / AIMCO / SDB /Tommy rifle, but im unable to find a relavent working contact info (except for AIMCO) or dealer info.

Can someone please help??

R

Have you read about the precihole orion?
I think you'd be better off with one of those than any other springer

@ Moin: thanks!

@abmetha: sure I have mate! I just not that convinced to throw in 10K at a Indian made gun, when I can clearly be getting something for 200 dollars from outside India. I want to start from something basic.

No offence and hope im not throwing in fuel for a a flame war...

@FN : They seem to be calling out outrageous prices for air rifles. I was told by one of them that a National 35 costs 8K and a week and a half to fulfill it.. The review son the site are more or less true.

Although I am interested in a Calcutta made Air Rifle , I did ask the prices of IHP & Precihole .
The price of IHP National 35 was from Rs 6500 +5% VAT to Rs 7500 + 5% VAT . Precihole Orion was from Rs 9300 + 5% VAT to Rs 9500 +5% VAT .

With the dealers in this city , there is no waiting period , you pay; they pack the rifle ; you take it home . No week & half waiting .

But if I were you , I would still go to the local dealer , because I would buy an Air Rifle only after hold it and testing it with my hands , and not after seeing a tiny photo of it on some website . But that's just me .
