Hi everyone,

I was introduced to this forum by a very dear friend of mine who also joined recently.

As you will see from my profile, I am located in the city state of Singapore. Although of Indian birth, I moved here several years ago and chose to stay for good.

Guns have been a passion with me for several decades, though my better half hates them with equal zeal.

Currently, I shoot for the Singapore team in IPSC events in the region. My weapon of choice is a .40 cal HK USP Expert.

Hope to meet some of you and make new friends.

IPSC is a style of sport shooting. IPSC stands for International Practical Shooting Confederation. The three key elements in it are speed, accuracy & power with procedures and rules for safe gun handling.

Multiple targets, moving targets, targets that react when hit, penalty carrying targets mixed-in, or even partially covering shoot targets, obstacles, movement, competitive tactics, and, in general, any other relevant difficulty the course designer can dream up, consist of a typical "stage". A "stage" can be short, medium or long, determined by the minimum number of rounds required to complete it. Yes, it means changing magazines on the run.

Only full power pistols are allowed (9mm or larger), with many competitors using custom 1911 .45's in the open category. This power minimum reflects the heritage of this modern sport, and mastering a full power handgun is considerably more difficult than shooting a light recoiling target pistol especially when the competitor is trying to go as fast as possible.

It's a great deal of fun and takes up the whole day as the local RD will typically setup 3 short, 2 medium and 1 long stage for the days' shoot.

We also hold night shoots, typically around Chinese new year when there is no moon to light up the targets!

In addition, we also have IPSC shotgun. The same game, but with a 12 ga. I use a Fabarm semi-auto 9 shot.

Absolutely. Gun control laws are taken extremely seriously here. That said, there is no such thing as prohibited or non-prohibted bores. You can buy pretty much anything, except a full auto.

Nope. I have not taken part in the Glock challenge.

I participate in regional IPSC competitions - Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, etc. My selected category is Standard (meaning out of the box weapon) Major (typically .40 and above, calculated through power factor).

In Singapore, I'm no. 1 in my category. Regionally, the best I've achieved is 16th overall (out of 300+ shooters). This discipline has a bias toward younger shooters and age does not help. So I'm quite pleased with my results.

Don't really have pics, but will take some on our next monthly shoot and post.

sorry but one more thing ...

I had already spoken to the big boys in IPSC about opening an India chapter. However, India has two major limitations ---

1. Entry level is 9mm; &
2. Possible Government bias toward this style of shooting.

I think you are a little confused as to what penpusher said above (reg. the .40 & .500) - NPB, means non-prohibited bore - that is one can get a NPB handgun on a regular handgun license, as opposed to PB which stands for Prohibited Bore and requires one to obtain a special license (issued by the MHA and not easy to get).

PB calibres are all service calibres - 9mm para, .45ACP, .38 rimmed etc. Contrary to popular belief, the restriction on calibres is not based on power, but whether or not they are/ were in service with the security forces (Army, Navy, Police etc.).

Other than calibre restrictions, all full auto guns are classified as PB as are all semi-auto long-guns (rifles & shotguns).
