SAM,

Some people might not like the word "dude" . It doesn't matter whether it is American slang or not. On IFG usually people call each other by their first names or by the nick name one has chosen for himself.

IFG is a great forum for sharing knowledge, ideas and thoughts so lets all make it even a more exciting place. There are newbies, trainees, aces, geeks, addicts, veterans, mods and admns and everyone is very friendly.

cheers,

RP

I prefer not to say anything more than the fact that the other IFG gentlemen whom you still intend to call "dude" would answer for themselves if they still want to be addressed as "dude" by you

I remember the old saying

"Wrestling with a pig in slush,
After sometime you realize
You are getting dirty
While the pig is enjoying it."
Pigsinmud.jpg
(BTW that's me on the left with a 'close' friend of mine)

Now this is just a saying and please do not be "broadminded" to think that I am calling you one.

And finally once you interact with some members over the phone or meet them in person you would get an idea of the quality of people who are members of the IFG.
At least my English is more of a British English than American English, reasons being our education system is based on the British English, not on the American English, many of our old timers stories, shikar, books & guns connect with the British Empire

Wishing you all the best & regards

Well,A pig will alway be a pig ,isn't it now ?No matter what;It Would like to be dirty as usual by getting into the muck! But please,Atleast I'm not addressing anyone here by using the term Pig directly or indirectly because I believe in being "likeminded" at the same time being "broadminded" too !

So whats wrong in addressing a man,man or dude. Now don't go on and dictate to me that I must address a man by using the term "WOMAN"doing so would be ignorant;isn't it ?Being likeminded is not enough my friend you need to be broadminded aswell !
Well SAM you say it yourself, you would not hesitate to address members out here as "Man",
see any of my posts I always address them as "gentlemen"

It is just being polite, does not make me a small man, infact you earn respect when you be polite,

I just realized I have been a bit to harsh on you, its not your fault, it's the way you have been brought up.

I should be sorry for pointing you out your mistake, & beg to be forgiven for acting on part of fellow IFG'ians, whom I consider my friends.
And should also apologize for being arrogant and rude in my 2 previous posts.

Kind regards

Far as I know.. Surface to Air missiles make a stealthy impact ;)

In what I have come across, I have also interacted with a bunch of teens who liked being called a 'b**ch'. Not to mention several other 'compliments' which includes being told that one's mother is a good f**k.

But, what I have also noticed is that this bunch of guys really work their a***e off from 8 to 5, with dedication, keeping well within their limits with those who are not in their 'crowd'. I have a book on American and Europe teen slang which I got to study on the target audience for certain products that we make. But the big volley here is that we have to ensure that we say the right words to the right people only.

I think Broadmindedness is not just acceptance of what anyone says or does, but also extends to one's actions and words to another. The teen 'jingle' I mentioned earlier, dont use these words with anyone other than their circle, and I would consider them to be broadminded enough to respect others' feelings :)

The ideal way would be to carefully 'listen' (and not just hear) about what your audience wants, and then deliver your thoughts in their best receptive tongue. This will make the other person listen, pay interest in unbiased ways, and give back ample reply(ies), which is exacly what one wants...

I mean, I could use words like 'Airhead' or so, but if the person who reads it, does not like reading it, then my act and time for typing that is lost :)

Slang education leads to African slang, European, Australian, Black, and several more variations, some even geocentric and so on.

Having said this, and thanking you guys for reading thru it, all I can say is that I am in no way trying to interrupt and wake a sleeping lion, but ensure his roar is understood well...

Have a nice time in IFG :)

I don't much care to be addressed as "dude" either, unless it's by close friends. Though I probably would have simply ignored the poster, if others had not brought it up. Not that I think the term is offensive in any way, merely that it conveys a sense of familiarity, that if missing in reality, does make it sound a bit jarring...

Anyhow, the fact is that we have members ranging from teenagers (just a handful) all the way up to people who've seen 60 winters or even more.

So it may be an idea to use a more neutral form of address... like maybe their first name/ username. If addressing a collective you may want to use gents/ gentlemen - we have few lady members and almost none are active so the above would suffice till such time as the ladies participate more actively here...

It's not in the rules or anything, so no one is going to enforce it, but it'll probably make your stay here a more rewarding and friendly experience. Merely a suggestion, please feel free to discard it...

Cheers!
