Help with some info on importing air pistols

Hi all,...... I have recently joined this forum.
Small arms like air pistols and knives have intrested me for a while now. I am looking for some help and information on how easy or difficult it is to bring in a .177 air pistol from the US.Are the completly restricted item.Can it be brought in as checked in luggage with a valid bill of sale or is it more complicated that all of that.
