An old new member - in more ways than one!!!!

Post by Shaman Warrior » Thu Feb 05, 2009 7:37 pm

Hi!!

I have a bit of a strange tale to tell. I was born in 1958 and am now fifty (50) years old. I started shooting when I was about 7 - 8 years old with a BSA 0.177 air rifle, which I had for about seven years. This I gave to a cousin when I acquired a lovely Diana 0.22 with an under lever cocking system and tumbler loading. This had a ball fore sight which I found very accurate. I had this for many years. One fateful day, when we were moving home, one of the movers deposited a piano on the rifle, which was resting against a wall. Sadly, the rifle was no more. After that I had/have not used weapons until 2 years ago – a gap of about 30 years. About 2 years ago I bought a 0.22 air rifle of obscure make for Rs. 3000/=. Subsequently I also picked up an equally obscure 0.22 air pistol for Rs. 2000/=. Last week I bought a Blanca BB pistol for Rs. 2500/= from the Bangalore Armoury. I found the owner, a Mr. Murtaza, very courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. I currently shoot only for fun. I have devised a target with an old blanket for a backstop. This is quite pleasant as I can shoot with impunity – secure in the knowledge that no one will be harmed accidentally. I grew up in a hunting tradition. I remember going out for chital (spotted deer) wild boar, sambhar and nilghai (“blue bull”) with my Dad and Uncles. Perhaps regrettably I was not old enough to hunt. All of them were very good shots and were steeped in the tradition of hunting as a gentleman’s sport. I quite realise that the situation and the strictures have altered dramatically over time. I, most certainly, am not looking to travel back in time. All I’m looking for is a forum where I can meet and interact with fellow aficionados. As Rev Tevye says, in “The Fiddler on the roof,” “This would be the nicest thing of all!!!”

Welcome to IFG. Good to hear that you are again indulging yourself in your interests. The Blanca was a bad buy. Try to pick up something good.
