Encountering a bear

A Baptist missionary was walking in Africa when he heard the ominous padding of a lion behind him. "Oh Lord," prayed the missionary, "Grant in Thy goodness that the lion walking behind me is a good Christian lion."
And then, in the silence that followed, the missionary heard the lion praying too: "Oh Lord," he prayed, "I thank Thee for the food which I am about to receive."

Now imagine the confession that took place the following week....
Lion: Oh Father I've sinned & I beg forgiveness.....
Priest: What did you do my child?
Lion: The drought had denuded the forest & all my food had disappeared....I had no option but to turn into a "Man Eater" to satiate my hunger to survive...
Priest: Don't despair my child, you were but an instrument in God's hands, that answered my prayer.....
Lion: What was your prayer Father?
Priest: Oh God, take Father Thomas unto thy heaven & let me become the new head of the parish.....
Lion: How provident.....God's ways of answering prayers are indeed mysterious
Priest: AMEN
