looks like a modified paratrooper version of the M1 Carbine. Wish I could see more of the body without the collapseable stock hiding it.

Difficult to tell without taking a look at the action, but Johan is right, what is visible of the bolt and the trigger assembly does look like the M1 .30 cal Carbine...
This picture from your trip to hills sir?
Cheers!

Absolutely penpusher.
The original M1 carbine magazine is enclosed in the huge AK look alike and functions fine.

Nah it was easy.. couldnt miss the trigger safety but had certain doubts about the size of the magazine.. The gas pipe below the barrel is also a dummy no doubt..
If I had a moustache I'd twirl it!

Jonah,
The gas pipe in the AK is above the barrel, the similar rod you see below the barrel in the AK and in the pic above is actually a cleaning rod in some variants of the AK series.

The pistol grip is crappy.
And why would anybody want to brandish that without some not-so-nice intentions.... ? I find it difficult to see any use for someone (In the Indian civilian context) to be lugging around an AK look-alike, other than possible mal-intention.
Apologies though if that is not the case.
Workmanship is good, nevertheless. I give 85%
Cheers!

Actually CC, the story, though apocryphal is; the M1 in question was issued as a BG piece for the owner, after some major 'events'. To make it look more official-in status conscious India, the mods were done...Has never been used in anger, more of a deterrent is what I feel.
Pistol grip is crappy, but the BG is happy to be carrying it, doubt if he ever had any range practice

Hi Eljefe,
Well, as I said, apologies if my comments were misdirected!
Best home deterrent would be in my opinion, a good souped up 12Ga Pump...with a very loud slide racking noise signature.
Pardon my ignorance...what does BG mean?

CC,
BG is body guard.
If I may quote a variation of an old saying-what the mind doesent know the ears and eyes will not recognise - what racking the slide of a pump 12 means...
The mods done above seem to be only for effect, most, if not all baddies may recognise an 'automatic' , AK variant by its curved mag, and its ability to put out some serious firepower.
This is a 'deterrent' model, I feel...First time I ever saw such a conversion.
