Rumor has it that when Hillary and Norgay reached the summit, there was a sound "sahib Chai".
They looked around to find a Sikh brother with a steaming kettle of tea and two glasses waiting for them. He said when he heard a group of mountaineers were going to climb Everest, he thought how cold it must be up there and how refreshing a hot cup of tea must be in such cold conditions. This struck him as a sound business venture and he climbed Everest from the other route to wait for them.
They asked him if he realised what he had done and that he had beeen the first man on the planet to set foot on Everest, he said he was only doing his business and they could keep the achievement as long as they gave him their custom.
So both of them bought tea from him and became the first men to set foot on everest; The sikh brother's name is lost in time.
Punjabis go even where Aaloos dare not grow (including the everest).
