what are these

What are these? The head stamps are as follows "Heer" "41" "S*" "aux". They are solid, chromed with holes drilled in the case above the head of the case and through the bullet.

7.92 x 57mm Mauser Dummy cartridge
Used to check a rifle for function; Feeding, extraction, ejection, etc.

Right on the money they are armour's test guages.

The interesting story behind them is my Step Father's uncle, a GI found these in am armory in Germany at the end of the war. He shippend 5 98K's, a luger and p-38 in holters back to the states. I received the P-38 (but it is in a Luger holster) and the last remaining 98k.

Not a gauge, though. A gauge is used to check dimensions; these check function.
