Information abounds on the internet on how rifling is done.
If you're planning to rifle just your single unrifled air gun, I'm afraid the cost and effort involved would probably afford you several well rifled IHP air-rifles.

Hi Bandook,
> Pl. note that if you already have a .22 cal smooth bore, you cannot rifle it and end up with the same caliber size. You will endup with an ODD BORE SIZE & you can't pellets for the bore you are landed with.
> Rifling is done in a comparatively smaller bore than the size you require. Because rifling results in metal removal.
> Besides one needs highly specialized cutting tools with great accuracy - It's a high precision job.
> Most gun makers order their barrels from specialist barrel makers.
> Go buy yourself a new & reputed brand of .22cal air rifle. If you already have a smooth bore, use it for plinking.

Hi Bandook,
Brihacharan has explained it very correctly.
Even if you'd managed to cut or swage the rifling grooves, it would be useless as the grooves would be beyond .22 diameter.... generally if you would need a smaller diameter bore to start with... say if you wanted a 5.5mm(.22) rifled barrel, you would need to start with a bore of about 5.2mm...etc. It is the grooves that are diametrically 5.5mm.
If you need info, use google.

AS brihacharan SAID "Most gun makers order their barrels from specialist barrel makers." i.e. I conclude most barrels are imported. Well then it is all the more important that some indian achieves the technological experties.
