Can I use motorcycle grease in spring action air gun

Hi
I have fired around 1000 shots each from my spring action pistol and rifle.
So I guess its mentainance time and I need to lube them. The power has decreased and the accuracy has gone down.
Sometime back I read on a thread that we should use silicon grease as petrolium grease can catch fire. Is that true for spring action guns too ?
Thanks
Regards
Gaurav

Hi gverma,
> No way! It can cause dieselling.
> Due to the high pressure with temparatures hitting almost 500*C within the power plant the grease will burn resulting in carbon deposits.
> Always use Moly - the semi solid lubricant which contains Molybdenum di-oxide which reduces the co-efficient of friction to a great extent.
> Mount a synthectic seal on the piston rod (in case your gun has a leather one) - it requires less lubrication.

There are very fine quality synthetic oils available in the market , you can easily find one . Before applying any lubricant clean the gun using Zoric spray , it is a very good de-greaser ( removes oil or grease residue ) and will leave a clean metal part which can be re lubricated again
