Ordered a fair bit of cleaning supplies on the 3rd of February. Parcel must have reached India before the 18th as the 'Show Cause Notice' is dated 18.2.2009. Received the parcel today. Paid a biggish amount in customs duty and to add to the sorrow, a few items (bore mops and patches) are missing. They aren't critical but its annoying just the same.

The box was packed well and nothing was broken - including a 16 oz. glass bottle of Montana Extreme.

For those who order from the U.S., be aware that there is no such thing as surface shipping from the U.S. anymore. This includes parcels from Cabelas. The advantage of using a courier is that they are faster, clear the parcel for you and nothing goes missing (so far atleast). Since the cost of shipping via USPS is based on weight and/or size, it need not be cheaper and postal customs can really screw you on duty.

Rusty was the package cleared at airport customs or postal customs? I thought the courier co. was supposed to take care of customs and simply pass on the duty charge to the consignee, from your post it would seem that this did not happen?

Cheers!

Saad thing to pay huge duties and then find stuff wacked by the postal deptt. Looks like the courier is the way of the future. Anyhow I have given up on postal customs with the new preacher at the Delhi Customs he has made it his God given duty to corrupt a fair practise. So no more toys fer me.

Abhijeet: It is postal customs that cleared the parcel. USPS (Priority Mail) at $55.85 wasn't exactly cheap and the cost of shipping and customs duty (37.84%) exceeded the cost of merchandise.

All said and done, I will do it again when I need to replenish supplies.
