Dear all, I purchased a gun rest online (E-Bay) ,about a month back and was waiting for the parcel when instead I received a "'Documents call cum show cause notice " from the Asstt/Deputy commissioner of customs, New Delhi ! The letter declares the item as " Rifle Tools"! I am surprised.
Is there a restriction on such an innocuous item? Is it fair to describe it as" rifle tools " ? Please suggest a remedy from this non-sense babudom......hh.

This sounds like an adverse knee-jerk reaction to the words; " Rifle Tools". Odd how some people are afraid of words.
Just tell them, "This is not a 'tool', it is a simple device to hold my air rifle whilst I clean & lubricate it, nothing more. It can also hold a fishing rod for repair, too."
Air rifle or fishing rod are fairly non-aggressive words. Don't volunteer additional information that will complicate matters, it will only give a bureaucrat a headache.

since a gun rest is a mystical item to the most. just go and politely inform them it's not a tool but fancy stool to rest your airrifle etc on. if they are in doubt ask them to call their amour to verify it. stay supper cool and uninterested in the whole thing.
such is hassle of importing.

At long last I got them ! After seemingly endless waiting, I could talk and convince the babus about the innocuous nature of gun-rests. It further required some
mandatory oiling & greasing to get the final OK.
