So what's the best way to clean your revolver/pistol after firing KF ammo? I just use a brass brush for cleaning the bore and all the chambers in the cylinder, followed by a soft brush. Should I wash and oil it too?

I am new to this as well but as far as possible I am letting the chemicals (bore solvent) do most of the work (keeping well within the manufacturer's guidelines) rather than vigorous brushing.

From what I have been reading, the salts found in the powder residue (even of non-corrosive primers) can attract moisture and thereby cause oxidation within the bore.

Considering you stay in a humid part of the country and use rounds having corrosive primers (do they really? I am still not sure on this point), I would suggest you remove as much copper, lead and powder fouling and keep the bore lightly oiled if you are carrying the handgun regularly.

I have the Hoppes Nitrous solvent Bore cleaner, that can be used for the bore but what about the cylinder, back and front of the cylinder, etc.?

I do keep the entire gun lightly oiled but will take special care cleaning it after firing. Just wanted to know what product to use for cleaning the other areas of the gun and should it be washed in case the primers are corrosive? I've got some breakfree CLP too.

IOFB has been going blue in the face writing non-corrosive primers on the ammo boxes . Have heard things about clip.

I had a feeling you would mention Hoppes. I got a complete Hoppes cleaning kit with my rifle but I am not impressed by their bore solvent as it has proved to be very mild. It may remove lead fouling completely but for copper fouling I am using Robla Solo MIL and Sweets 7.62. You can order Robla Solo MIL from the U.K. (the Americans wont send it) from www.airgunbuyer.com and Sweets 7.62 from Cabelas. The latter is still on back order but expected to be in stock in 1 to 2 weeks as per the Cabelas website. This is the only bore solvent they will ship but by surface mail, so expect it to take 60 to 90 days before you get it.

If lead fouling is all that needs to be removed you can make your own Ed's Red. ATF (automatic transmission fluid), thinner and acetone mixed in the 1:1:1 ratio should get you started. If I am not mistaken the recipe has been refined further to include something or the other that will also remove copper fouling. Have a look at the thread. You could use Ed's Red to clean the chambers and the cylinder. One thing I am not sure off is whether one should store a gun without removing Ed's Red. So, just to be on the safe side, once you have cleaned the parts, wipe off the Ed's Red and apply a light coat of oil.

What do you mean "about clip"?

Made a typo about CLP. But my rimfire cases always have the words non-corrosive smokeless powders. Beyond that I don't know.

Best way to clean for corrosive primers.Use hot water.It's free and does the job as well as any solvent.

BTW,KF uses corrosive primers only in .315 ammo.Another suggestion.Never buy a second hand .315 rifle.Most,if not all have some form of corrosion in the barrel due to improper cleaning.Ranges from slight hazing to dangerous to fire.

Ammonia will remove all the copper deposits in the bore

Quite a few bore solvents contain ammonia but only as a small fraction. I wouldn't use 100% ammonia in my bores.

Ed's Red works just fine,have got good results.But then most of the ammo that I have been using is imported or Astram's.
Have got some Hoppes & Rem Oil but havent got around to using them.

I use ammonia diluted with deionized water.

Imported ammo or KF Astram does not foul the barrel much. It requires just regular cleaning and oiling in most cses.

If firing KF Special ammo in a gun then immediate cleaning is required, even before you sit down to have tea, clean the gun as soon as possible or the fouling and deposits can be a real mess to clean, often a copper brush will be required.
