Suggestions on how to start a suppressor research biz

Hey folks,
So, lately I've been obsessed with suppressors. Ever since I tried taping a coke bottle to the end of a .22 (followed by a bunch of different cans), I can't help but wonder what might be possible if I pursued it a bit more seriously. I know that the suppressor world is moving towards 3d printing, and with the cost of these things coming down to fairly manageable levels, I guess it won't take much capital to get started.

My question is, how do I even begin? I can get a used metal 3d printer alright. But, I am assuming I can't just go on printing stuff for fun simply using my local range or my backyard. I guess establishing a company is the way to go, but that's way to capital intensive just yet. Is it possible to become a registered gunsmith and continue doing this legally? I also assume that the regular firearm license will not suffice as I will need to expend a lot more ammo so, what might my options be?

Thanks!

To be best of my knowledge they are not legal to be owned by civilians in India. So save yourself the harassment by the authorities and let go of the desire.

You could use an extension bar likes which are used in 50m target rifles, but it has to be specific to the size of your barrel the advantage would be it will reduce the muzzle jump when the rifle is fired and also increases the sighting radius if the front sights (usually peep sights) are fitted with it, it also gives a balance to the rifle ,the weights can be added or removed in the bar

It looks similar to a suppressor but it will not reduce the sound or recoil

It has to be imported

No suggestions about a business, but look into the old British WW2 "Welrod" pistol. It's quite interesting old school design.

Suggest you read up on the legality. ASAP
Maybe look only at the export market!

Thank you for your suggestions. Looks like there's no way but to setup a proper business if I want to pursue this.

Yes, civilians can't. However, businesses can, I believe.

I believe you're referring to a compensator, which is different from a suppressor, also known as silencer.

Thanks Timmy, the welrod was a really interesting design. It's strange why more manufacturers aren't using integrally suppressed designs since they make more all round sense.

Yes, this is what I am currently doing. Even with the whole make in India thing in full swing, starting out still is quite tough it seems.

The integral aspect of the design is certainly the most visible, but I thought that the barrel's serial porting and the limited use rubber barriers might be something more helpful to ponder. I could imagine myself cutting up old tire inner tubes and making my own in my mind, but as suppressors require a registration and tax process here, I would never actually consent to such a thing.

I believe you're referring to rubber wipes? Didn't realize the welrod used them. I was aware of them from the US Navy's hush puppy suppressor. B&T also played around with it, but the degradation in accuracy and the fact that the wipes become useless after 20 odd shots is the reason why they never caught on. I also suspect they' can't be used with automatic firearms since they'd create massive backpressure. Though, it seems their suppression performance still can't be beaten.
