Re-bluing HW35- Amatuer's first attempt

I tried re bluing my HW 35 with a bluing solution that I had picked up some time back.. and using the tooth brush method suggested by Mark.

And well I didn't expect anything just wanted to try out..knowing all the limitation of using cold blue.. and after doing the barrel. i decide to take some pics.. Nothing deepblue as to expect..but not that bad either..

Had learnt some the cleaning stuff from Mack The Knife, used surgical spirit to degrease

after using a sand paper to remove the rust




And after bluing

The Bluing solution is from Klever..called Klever Schnell Brunierung..

Does multiple 'coats' of bluing also help?

Need to get the interiors also changed..for that I need expert (Mack The Knife's) help

Yes it helps a lot. If you can rub it down with a fine steel wool between it adds to the finish quite a bit.

Thats a decent start.

Yup multiple coats does lead to a rich and even finish.
Buff each time lightly with the finest steel wool you can get your hands on and of course clean, clean, clean...

good job,
i know its hard work since i had tried ,the first few of my attempts broke my heart but i faired well later,marks advice was great.
always apply some gun oil after the job and overnight it helps to darken ,and yes very good fine steel wool helped as told by mark and grumpy both.multiple coats wud be great.

Sorry but I cannot tell if it is a good job or not as the pic is out of focus and from experience, it's usually a case of good from far but far from good. However, I am very glad you decided to do it yourself rather than depend on anyone. It's the only way you are going to learn.

I hope you haven't sandpapered the stampings on the metal.

You did dismantle the rifle completely before bluing, didn't you?

The picture is blurred and yes..its more grey than blue.. i'll bring it to thee..(will call and fix a time)..on this weekend.. Been planning to do this for a long time..

If you did not have the tools you should have bought them and common sence would have more than sufficed in the place of skill. I assume you did not rinse the blued surface in hot water before applying oil? And how did you prevent the sandpaper dust from getting into the cylinder, trigger unit and other places it has no business being in? Using the toothbrush method, it is more than likely that you have inavertently introduced some blue into the cylider, etc. and if left unchecked it is going to rust. The only thing that may prevent rusting inside the cylinder is the old grease or oil in there.

Mistakes!!..blunders, i would say..but I hope there is enough oil/grease in the cylinder to minimize the damage.. i used a wet cloth to remove the excess bluing soln as indicated on instructions..before oiling it.
