Will my gun still fire if drenched in rain

With monsoon around the corner in most parts of the country how safe is my gun in my holster if I happen to drench it. While the leather of the holster would be effected no doubt, would a ashani still fire if ( at all ) water enters the cartridge, will the other parts of a IOF pistol or revolver be effected...expert opinion please...

this is what you do,
1/ go to safe place
2/ take out your ashani and point it at a safe place
3/ pull the trigger
4/report back here with the results.

but we are talking Ashani right? who knows? does it fire out of rain?

just a thought, if guns could not fire when raining, then we can build one with an unbrala and conquer the world when its raining. As we will be the only one with guns that work in the rain.
that is my ex-pert onion.

Farook,

You have the pistol and you have the cartridges. Why not do a field test and post a report? I think it will benefit the members.Thanks.

Best-
Vikram

The rain may not enter your pistol at all if the holster is covered by a flap. Metallic cartridges loaded in breech-loading weapons should not be affected by rain to the extent that they do not fire. Of course if they are soaked in water for several hours, it may be a different story

As Timmy mentions, if you seal the primer bullets are pretty much good for a century or so. Most of the time sealing is unnecessary but you cannot really tell so that is why it can be suggested to do it. Why most reloaders choose to use primer sealer is to be able to identify different loads. That is why the Brownells link has 4 different colors of sealer.

Personally, I have never had a need to bother with sealers but I can see where they would be useful. When I make different loads, I'll mark the base of the cartridge with a permanent marker and that way they do not get mixed up.

If you choose to seal your primers, nail polish is what was used for many decades, just a small dab and you can also run a trace around the bullet/case seam as well.

If I wanted to check some bullets for moisture resistance, I think I'd drop one in a pot of boiling water and see if it leaked bubbles anywhere. If it started bubbling, simply remove it from the water quickly and it should be none the worse for wear.

Thanks the reply Mark, well we are talking about the Indian Ordinance ammo, cheap crappy stuff. Its more about the gun powder getting soaked in water and not firing at all leaving me in a life threatening situation. I would assume your referring to a IPSC match practice where many contenders shoot and empty cases may get mixed up if not marked in a color. Searched the web and the found this

One day I left a loaded magazine in my pants pocket when I threw it in the laundry basket.
These were commercially loaded self defense rounds in .40 S&W, loaded by Hornady (Hornady TAP).

My wife handed it to me after it went through the washer and dryer.
The next time I went to the range, I loaded the magazine into my handgun and fired the handgun. Every single round fired and they grouped normally.

IOF ammo? You won't know unless you try it.
