How to laminate Realtree camouflage on a gunstock??

Hello guys!

I recently received a really old .22 Model 2 and have restored the metal parts receiver/barrel etc., the wooden stock is really crap.

One option is to paint it. But don't exactly like any kind of paintwork on a gun. One option that I am thinking of is real tree camouflage...

Now I happen to have a few sheets of real tree cloth which I want to use to camouflage the stock with. Only problem is I really don't know how. Am experimenting with photo laminating resins and hardeners at present.

Any advise/help in this matter (How to laminate real-tree camouflage on to a wooden stock) would be greatly appreciated!

Jonah,

Do justice to that Mod 2 and give it a classic "hand-rubbed" oil-finish, Birchwood Casey's Tru-oil is handy and quick, provided you've de-whiskered the stock and cleaned it out properly, sandpaper and tung oil is slow but is ironically wood's best friend.

Thanks for your reply! My exact thoughts actually… I even have a few quarts of pure Tung Oil But unfortunately the old stock has been whittled down and tampered with to such an extent that it is impossible to restore it. What with a couple of steel plates nailed into the forend of the stock.!

As I didn’t have the motivation to build a brand new stock, I was thinking on the lines of covering up the steel plates and cracks with some kind of sealant (M-Seal) comes to mind and then rather than painting it as it was originally done, I thought it would be clever if I could give it a real tree finish!

Since then, I have been given the motivation to build another stock and here is the result!


The wood used is Teak, 12 coats if shellac varnish, a few drops of rosewood stain and 2 coats of clearcoat..(To protect the stock from the high humidity) The darkish material near the grip is a.. ahem! A customized.. er… dark patch



My own local concotion of glass bedding formulation is being done tonight and I am earnestly awaiting its result!
