AFAIK...JM springs are unset when delivered....these springs need to be compressed before installation ....but care must be taken not to cant it in the process...one way of doing this by inserting a rod of suitable OD inside the spring with a fixed washer at the other end...insert a free washer at the other end so that the spring is held in between the two...use a suitable adapter (a pipe for example) and compress the spring with the help of your spring compressor...
