Hi Marksmann,
The range of a 12bore is such that it doesnt need a scope.
Scopes are for long range weapoms like rifles and .22Lr if i am not wrong.

range of 12 bore is anything between 30- 45 yards(I mean effective range). So it's useless to attach scope on 12 bore .

...that is unless you plan to go tacti-cool or maybe you have a slug shooter....
A simple red dot may 'assist' in a close up defense situation...else a scope could be about as useful as putting spoilers on a jeep.

Another point to consider is that you cannot attach scope mounts to a (most) single barrel shotgun unless it has a solid rib; or the mounts are steel and can be soldered on. You cannot drill and tap the barrel as you can the receiver of a rifle to screw on the scope mount bases. And on a light shotgun you'd want a sturdy and solid mount. Unless you want to catch the scope and mount with your forehead. Cheers.

Very right two rivers.
Marksman,
as tworivers mentioned, most 12 bore barrels are too thin for any useful drilling or tapping- you'll probably only be able to soft solder or silver solder... both of which require a degree of skill and experience to accomplish at "home". Soft solder will probably come off with the combined weight of a scope and the brisk recoil of a light SBBL. Barrel bands may be an ugly but possible solution but again the person making it will need to take into account the inconsistent taper of most Indian SBBLS... cheap ones at that.
regards,
cc

If you are intending to shoot slugs, then its ok to fit a scope. but its going to be quiet difficult as tworivers mentioned. what is the make of the shotgun.
Because i have come accross an Indian single barrel fitted with iron sights for sighting in the lyman slug, which to my surprise gave a 3.5 inch group at 90yards

not bad.
It punched holes right through a 1.5" pank of babul wood.

That's no shotgun, that's a .315 rifle

Quiet true dev thats what u can expect from a .315 IOF, but i am talking about a shotgun. if both have have the same accuracy i'd rather opt for a shotgun for its versitility.
