Hi jaz if your question is still not answered maybe this may help.Astram Magna is a 70 mm 2 3/4 inches cartridge,it is loaded with 32 grains of gunpowder. The normal IOF cartridge is loaded with 24 grains of Gunpowder, the normal ctg is 65 mm 2 1/2 inches.Magna is the nearest ctg in india which can be called a Magnum Ctg.IOF produces a Ctg "Deluxe" which is also sold as Astram, this has 26 grains of GP.The deluxe can be used in guns having 65mm Chambers {A lot of English Guns are chambed for the 65 MM Ctg only} although the writing on the ctg says 70 MM cause its a Crimped Ctg not a rolled 1 like Astram Magna.Hope it helps

Amit357 , you have replyed very well , I have used Astram magna and thery are quite effective as compared deluxe. But Amit I think that shaktiman also use 32 (or more Grains) of gunpowder as I fired some shots they have quite a punch.

Jaz, Magna is there in No 1 only, deluxe u can get in No4,6,Astram magna has disappered from the mkt as Wild Boar after being declared vermin in Punjab & HP,Astarm Magna is 1 of the most relible CTG in the market they are selling for Rs 75/85 a piece in the few places in PB/HP.As far as Shaktiman is considered they use black powder in the CTG.I ruined a perfectly good BSA with Shakiman Ctgs, there loading is very erratic, wont use them in any gun and dont recommend them for any.I had a BAIKAL 16 Bore O/U,messed it up with Shaktiman CTGS.I could be wrong but i dont use them,Either stick to IOF or maybe KOMPAC 71/2 they are v good.Sanjay KF Special has 30 grms of Shot not 30 G of gun powder. They write the weight if the shot on the CTG.Anyway hope it helped

Amit, not sure what you mean by black powder messed up your 16 bore. I shoot a bit of BP and have yet to have a weapon messed up by it.

Those charges being quoted are the shot, not the powder. It's not grains of powder, but grams of shot. Cheers.

Amit,

Black powder is quite lierally black or a deep graphite colour. i am refering to the muzzle loading variety. The precussion caps used with muzzle loaders are corrosive, and therefore the weapon needs a bath to clean up after shooting it. I do have a few, and have not seen any damage to the weapons from it.
For metallic cartridges one tends to use smokeless powder for the most part. Some cartridges can be loaded with BP for example the 45-70 Govt, but most calibers use smokeless. I have even loaded a 7.62x39 cartridge with BP to see if it would cycle properly.. and it does. Had no damage to the gun even though it did get pretty drty.

Smokeless powder comes in a variety of tinges over graphite. These can range from purplish to greenish. But in general it still is graphite coloured.

Hi, MoA are you sure we are in the same country, here the GP i have seen for MZ Loaders stinks,i love the smell of burning GP.15 yrs back when we guys were low on cash a friend got a Muzzle loader and we used to reload our 12 Ga Ctgs with that, fouled up a BSA,a Geffory,my friends dad who owned the Geff abused us and till now he doesnt lend us his 22 IOF,either you are in a diffrent country or plain lucky

Black Powder doesnt really stink. It just smells a little different. BP fouling is easy to remove, with hot soapy water, and/or windex. At least that is what I use. No damage to the weapon what so ever.
I dont know what luck has to do with BP or gunpowder in general.
