I am looking to buy a scope for an Air Rifle. It will be my first so I want it to be under 200 USD for now. What suggestions do you gents have?

Bushnell sportsman is around that price and mild springer to mid powered springer rated.
Plus the Centre point and the leapers series.
Look thru pyramyd air's scope section.

Thanks for the suggestion Dev. I see that Pyramydair doesn't stock any Bushnells.
What is the review about Bushnell Legend 5-15X40? Is it an Air Rifle rated scope?

The Bushnell Legend 5-15x40 (mil-dot reticle) is an excellent scope and rated for spring-piston air-rifles. The only down-side is it's length when used on fixed barrel air-rifles - it blocks a sizeable part of the loading port. If you can, buy one off E-bay (U.S.A.) as they are a lot cheaper there.

Which air-rifle (mention calibre) do you want to put a scope on?

It will be a .22 HW 77 or 97 Mack The Knife. I hope a scope rated for a .22 will easily get accommodated on a .177 if ever the need be? Amazon has a price if 170 quid with free shipping right now. Looks like a good deal. Being quite long, what other scope would you recommend in this price range?

I need to know which rifle you intend to mount a scope on. The recoil from a .177" cal. 'springer' is a little more than what you would get on a similar .22" cal. air-rifle.

Duh! Just saw '77k or 97k mentioned. Did you edit your post or am I going blind?

Anyway, the Legend 5-15x40 will obstruct part of the loading port on either rifles. I will have a look at the specs for the Legend 4-12x40 and 3-9x and get back to you.

If this scope is being sent directly to you via post or courier, it will be confiscated.

170 quid (GBP) isn't exactly a good deal. You should be able to find it for $160.00 (half the U.K. price) on ebay (U.S.A.)

Yash, if you want to go for a Legend, I would suggest the 2-7x32 or 3-9x40. The 4-12x and 5-15x are way too long...for my tastes, atleast. Mind you, neither have an adjustable objective bell. I use a cheap Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 on my 97k and Pro Sport and so far there have been no complaints.

If you must buy from the U.K. (so long as someone brings one back for you), you could consider the Nikko Stirling Air King Gold in 2-7x, 3-9x and 4-12x or the MTC Cobra 3-9x40. These are budget 'springer' rated scopes and should (no guarantees) withstand the recoil from a 77K or 97K. Both model ranges come with single piece mounts and flip-up lens covers included in the price.

Your other choices lie in the Hawke and Tasco Varmint range. I have used the latter in 2.5-10x flavour and it was still ticking when I sold it to GG's cousin. As far as I know, it's still working.

Excellent provided you don't mind it obstructing part of the loading port. Failing which, consider the other suggestions mentioned in my previous post.

Thanks for all the suggestions Rusty. Any feedback for BSA scopes? They seem to be quite economical.

I am not aware how good or bad the present models are but the earlier 'Cat's Eyes' models were not highly rated. Mark uses a BSA scope on one of his guns, so you could ask him.
