is it legal to import spare parts for the gun you own like grips , magazines , screws, sights , holsters, etc
if its legal can we order the same on the internet say from amazon or any gun site that is willing to ship to india or ask any friend abroad to courier the same to us in india

I have ordered grips and holsters in the past without any problem but I am not too sure about the other parts.I guess working parts might land you up in trouble.Never tried it and dont intend to.

If you are returning from overseas small parts are all right, but you would need permission to import major parts like barrel, action, receiver etc. In fact legally the action/ receiver is "the gun" (everything else is a part), so importing the action/ receiver would only be possible on a import license for a firearm.

As per the arms act you do not even require a license to be in possession of minor gun parts (excepting the above mentioned ones).

Importing these via post could be tricky though, as gun parts are on the restricted list.

Also, please do check the legal status for possession & export in the country from where you plan to get these.

I should add here that customs baggage rules are open to wide interpretation by the inspecting officer. So in some cases they may allow them and others they may confiscate the parts in question... it's basically a gamble...
